how many lumens would a plant need to produce superior quality buds?

the lights have nothing to do with quality bro..

quality is regulated by the genetics of the plant.

I mean sure, the more lights.. the better/happier your plants will be..

However, as I said.. quality has nothing to do with the lights.

Do some reading bro... ;)

peace.

i understand that, but there must be a rough limit there, surely i cant grow with 1 lumen and expect to get thick resin coated buds?

if you want fat dense quality buds aim for 5000 lumens sq/ft, genetics will dictate all details as long as you keep environment optimal.

LMAO.. hehehehe yeah.. no your right about that. I see your point now..

well, to simplify this for ya.. here's what my lighting setup consists of.. and I get good harvests from it.

two 150watt HPS lamps for top canopy coverage (with MH conversion bulbs for veg which I had to order separately)

then, I've got 6 total CFL bulbs, mixed wattage.. ranging from 125watts (the lowest one) up to 150watts (the highest ones).

The CFL bulbs are only used for side lighting for the plant... but total wattage, I have 1,050 total watts.. with HPS/CFL combined.

It's the cheapest setup I've seen.. and for the money.. it pumps out plenty of bud for me. I only grow 2 (3plants MAX) per grow.. because I don't deal/sell anything. I only grow for my personal needs. So yeah, it does very well for what I need. ;)

peace.
