How many leaves can I remove per day

Ok so i've been reading and searching( I really don't like the search function here) I know I've read material about pruning durring bid and would like some input. I have been in flower for about 2 1/2 wks now and the stretching is all but over. I had been tucking the larger upper leaves down allowing light to reach the extra sites made possible by FIM. My question is how many and from what area of the plant can I remove these extra large fans that re blocking my lower shoots, I think I read 1-2 per day, I have probbly 6-8 leaves per plant I'd like to remove to allow as much light to my canopy and bud sites. I only want to remove the ones not associated w bud branches. Any info on removing upper fans to promote lower growth and coverage is welcome, times of day , technique etc.

I know there will be a few nay Sayers about removing the leaves, but I know from experience that even done half right the extra light and lessened plant material using the same nutes =bigger buds and that's what were after, so I'd like to do this for a couple weeks and not stress the girls by way of slowing growth
