I have a 4'x4'x6.6" grow tent with a 1000 HPS and a shade with 4" vent holes to cool the light. How many CFM do I need to have complete control over temp and so forth?

There are three things you will need to have to put that furnace in the box. You will need to 'air cool' the light. You will need to have intake and exhaust to bring in 'fresh air' and expell the co2 depleted air and you will need an oscillating a fan to move the air around.
Air cooling the light will require a glass shield to seal the heat away from the plants, an intake fan to blow air into the light and an exhaust fan to pull the hot air out. Then install a vent to the outside so you can get that HOT air out of there.
The air handling for the fresh air could be passive intake, if so it will need to be twice as large as the duct your are using to exhaust the 'stale air'. You will have to install a vent to get that outside too. Trust me, if you don't vent it to the outside you will not like the results.
I always recommend wall mounted oscillatimg fans, may not be possible in your case.
How big of a fan you will need will be a matter of experimenting. You won't be able to grow very tall plants, you will lose about 2 1/2' of height to put that furnace in that box, and the height of the system or pots you use and subtract it from your height. What a waste. VV
