you guys dont listen, its not an option for all of us due to various reasons, I dont have the right size grow space for hid without doing some cutting into wall etc.... not doing that to my house!!! but I am going to grow so I am looking for the best ALTERNATIVE. its not about cost for me, its not about the electric bill its about space and ventilation, and some of these guys are getting up to 1lb using cfls, dont see how I wouldnt be pleased with that....

I am not knocking the hid guys, I just dont get it, before I started growing I never went to my dealer and said hey dont sale me any of those cfl bags lol most of us are not growing so our buds can grace the cover of high times or win a competition just growing something to smoke and maybe for some something to sale to a few friends I dont think you need a 400 w hps super combo bulb cool tube with 4 inch exhaust blah blah blah to accomplish that!!
I beg to differ, no one will want to buy lose weak buds. I am a real smoker, and I require good stuff, and don't settle for shit. If the Bud I am smoking can not be in HighTimes, then why smoke it. You sound like you don't even care if it is good or not. Who doesn't want to shoot for the best bud possible? Does not make sense to me. Its not about a competition, but if you enjoy somethiing, dont you want the best of it? :) I know I do!

there is a grow going now the guy has i think 20 cfls 3X3 grow area I think he has 10-11 plants he said he gt 1.1lbs dry last grow and is shooting for 1.5lbs this grow..... so it can be done and that is the scale I wont to go in my space, but I am wondering if the t5s will do the job with a little less work

20 cfl's? LOL. OMG And how many watts each? 20 lights? lol. That is funny shit, Some can grow that much with 1 maybe 2 bulbs. LOL
point me in the direction of this funny show, I have to see it. Also a 3x3 area, and 20 cfl's and 1.5 lbs. And you believe everything you read? LOL

I have been smoking for 20 years, and I like most smokers until I started growing didnt know and didnt care what type of light was used as long as it smelled, taste, and felt good.... and being grown under an HPS or other HID light does not guantee it will be good weed that concept is ridiculous, chances are you couldnt tell the difference unless someone told you.. There are good grows going on all around us with various light sources.. it must work we are all getting high arent we?

You think that there are big grow ops going on with CFL's? That is how you would not know, usually a CFL grow is very small, so you would have to know the guy that grew it, because he would only have a little to sell, not lbs or ounces to put out on the street to get around. So if you bought something from a guy who got from a guy, that got a large amount from someone, you can trust me that they are grown under HID's or outdoors. :) But yes I am getting high, I know that for sure!!! LOL
FYI....I love all of you, even if we don't agree! But a good debate is always fun and healthy! LOL

it was just a few post down but maybe you were blinded by your big light lol..... and no I dont belive everything I read, but I have seen enough people pulling decent yields with lights other than HID to know it is a viable option, I am not interested in converting your way of thinking ( i honestly think trying to manage so many bulbs may be too complicated for you) only trying to open your mind to the possibilities... all of you HID guys seem to have the same attitude, i wonder if those bright hot lights somehow effect your good sense and logic.....

yes your post proved my original point, for those of us not loking to grow for living, chances are HID lights just dont make sense, its not practical for a guy with a small closet looking to grow 1lb or less to risk a damn fire, water splashed on the bulb it can explode plants get too close they will burn and may catch fire....etc... god forbid a fan gives out then you got temps over 100, if I had a whole bedroom or something to dedicate to groing I would go HID without a doubt, but in a small closet i am just asking for disaster IMHO

LOL...your a funny guy, I sense you getting bothered though in a negative way, nothing wrong with us not agreeing. Don't you think all of the people that use big lights, started out with little cfl's or the tubes? Of course, everyone starts there, but thats our point, you sample with that just to get an idea. If you want to get serious you get an HID. FYI........a CFL will save you 18 dollars a year if you use it for a porch light instead of a regular light bulb. So switch every light in your house to CFL, and use a good light for your plants. Save money on power other ways, no need to short the babies!

This is by far the funniest thread I've ever read.
I love it, I think it is so funny! I am taking gravity hits, and reading and laughing. Some people get so serious. Even though I will argue, I don't get upset. I still enjoy and respect everyone here. LOL.

your spidey senses must be off then I am not bothered nor do I feel anything negative towards you or HID lights, I am in no way saying cfls or any other type of light is better than the other, I am saying it comes down to individual circumstance, as does everything in life, and HID although they are great lights, are not great for everyone, everything has its place friend,

i personally have no problems with CFL's. My plan is I use them for my mothers to get them short and bushy, then i take clones, then i throw the clones into flowering with my HPS. Just keep the cycle going. I wouldn't ever go overboard with 20 lights or anything like that, I keep it simple with just 8 26w for 3 plants.

I think that sounds perfect! And flowering with the HPS! :) 20 lights is just crazy, thats the ones I don't get. LOL.
Because you are trying to keep them small, but still the 8 adds up to a lot of watts. (208 watts)

Lets hope my plan goes as well as I typed it lol. CFL's are a great way to veg, not flower in my opinion. Flowering with CFLs can be done, if done right. You have to keep the bulbs so close to get dense buds. Keep them more then 2" they will loosen. I use a wide spectrum for vegging, ranging from 2700-6500K. All in all though they get roughly 8000 lumens for just 8 bulbs. If you want tall plants throughout you should go with HID, if you want a small grow, go with CFL.

Thats my 2 cents.

And I'm done

Yeah 208 watts would be right, but I spent $50 for my whole CFL light setup, where as I would have to buy a MHbulb/Ballast/Hood/Reflector which would run me near $100 if not more. Not worried about powerbill that much as its only on average an extra $30 a month to keep those lights running, it's a 3 bedroom and if I had a roomate in there he'd be using as much power as my setup is. So the way I look at it, shes my roomate!!
