how many air pumps?

k so i am planning my next grow and i am switching to 4 dwc buckets. and i was wondering how many air pumps will i need. do i need 1 for each bucket or will a normal fish tank air pump werk with a hose splitter? i want as many bubbles as i can in 4 2 gallon buckets
 
You need to test it with the method in the original post. probably a decent pump for each bucket. An aquarium pump split to 4 will not produce nearly enough bubble action for the method we are describing here.
 
Check out some commercial air pumps on ebay, they provide more then enough air for 12-12'' air-stones for my setup
 
Aquarium air pumps tend to send the air to the path of least resistance so the final stone in a 4 stone set up will be anemic at best... get a big pump or 4 small ones.... I once had 6 fishtanks running atonceand know this first hand....

Definitely go for a "commercial" pump. I was using like 6 walmart pumps for my 4 buckets. When I switched to the eco plus 5 I noticed a tremendous increase in growth and a overall healthier root zone. One of the better purchases I made.
 
Also, when you are using an air pump to do a lot (multiple buckets, bubble-feeding) you can't really have too much pump. It is the engine of the machine. So consider that when a pump goes down you have a problem that can't wait. That's why quality and reliability are important. To be really safe, have a backup.
 
I have the 35 watt size and I grow indoors , Believe me It is loud I have suspended ti inside a cooler using bungie cords and put the cooler on a bed of bubblewrap . It quieted it down about 80% but it is still a constant hum in the background .
Works great produces a good flow of air But It makes noise

Not sure why mine isnt that loud. It is on a concrete floor, not sure if that makes a difference.
