I would use HPS for VEG if your gonna go get one. Yes will use more electric but buds be denser and no stretch to worry about etc. Will be good in long run.
How long Should one generaly Veg there plants Using CFL's?

I have heard that too. Is there different bulbs you can get for the ballast that have different output ratings? like a blue spectrum? that would probably be the best. But CFL all the way is def possible and alot cheaper but you get what you pay for ya know. Im sure the HPS will pay for itself in one grow I just dont have the money to put up for one.

even with the CFLs on my first grow I produced some good buds. beginners luck maybe? The plants were atleast 6 weeks premature and I still got like 10 grams of good quality shit off 2 plants and used the trim to make some killer ISO hash.

Yeah you can buy a MH Bulb for Veg (MH = Metal Halide) then HPS for flower (High Pressure Sodium) You get a kit with a interchangable ballast to take both bulbs BUT IMO saves a bit of money and get BETTER results I use a 400w Duel Spec Sunmaster bulb. Basically the full spectrum of what you want for a whole grow. It's great and obviously saves buying 2 bulbs.

yea eventually after I get a couple grows under my belt thats what I will do. I have a friend that uses a 400w HPS the whole way through and pulls atleast a half pound off 4 plants

I wouldnt say im that good but for a beginner/amateur like me I moved from huge arse CFL's to my 400w kit and wouldn't look back! yes more electric but it is what it is. As long as you can get rid of the heat all is well! I can control a 400w easily and wouldn't fancy going any bigger until maybe my next 4 grows or so. Loving my current one, topped a CH9 Humboldt (free seed with a order from the tude) and randomly topped it and think im ending up with 4 or 6 colas! Can't wait see what happens. Gonna veg for ages.

if thats foil get it out and go to sports authority and get an emergency blanket of 2 and get some more watts going in there

I was using 388 watts for the flower and ~46w for my veg cab. For flower I had three 68w bulbs below the canopy and 8 23w bulbs covering the canopy. There is a link in my signature to the entire grow.
If you are thinking of sometime upgrading to an HID I would suggest to just do it now. CFLs are nice and cheap but HID is so much more fun. For $700 you can get a really nice 4x4 tent, 600w lumatek, fan/filter, air cooled hood,... the whole shebang.
Unfortunately the reflective coating on emergency blankets is so thin that foil actually is a bit more reflective. Foil does not cause hot spots - that's a myth.

For all the naysayers, I can show you some of the fattest nugs all produced from cfl. Now i am running 700 watts cfl in a 4 x 4 room. My last plant I topped and trimmed to be just 8 nugs. before they dried, they were the size of baseballs. Got 68.1 grams dried weight off a 2' tall plant. And that was bagseed. I use strip lights. they are typically used over vanities and have up to 6 or more sockets for bulbs. I then run splitters. Threestrips of those full with splitter gives me a great grow.

I'm not a naysayer I believe in cfls. I used to use 300w bulbs. Just saying when I 'upgraded' the results are better. But depends on your situation of space etc.

ok bro i tell u if yer seeds arent feminized i use dutch method: put em into da flowering early u get 90% female i tryed it br0. i put 5 seeds early into flowering 2 weeks veg i get 1 male 4 females i put late into flowering 4-5 weeks veg i get 4 males 1 female
