so this putz is gonna make employers pay people who stay home. then how come the state can furlough people without pay so they meet the state budget? my state is going to make the state workers take 24 days per year of unpaid leave. i am pretty sure cali did something similar and i know that many states/municipalities are talking about doing the same thing.

but they, the politicians, are gonna make everyone else pay their employees for not working yet they dont have to? yes, that should really help business in this country. these fuckers couldnt manage a lemonade stand. come on 2010. you cant get here soon enough!

there's a difference between cutting capacity to meet your budgetary needs, what states are doing,

and telling a sick person not to come to work because they might be carrying an infectious disease...

there's no hypocrisy when it's not the same thing...

There is a big difference when the state forces the employer to pay for days missed.
Typical of the contempt these statists have for small business owners.
Where is this money going to come from???

Right I feel you.
There is no money in the Small buisnessmans budget to pay for sick days.
But believe me I have swine flu right now. (Doctor Confirmed)
And you don't want to go to work when it hits your lungs.
You don't want to spread it either.

actually, if you read the legislation, there is a very big possibility of there being some sort of allowance in terms of either a deduction from your taxable income, or a tax break, to make up for this...

if there is no provision in place now, it is only a matter of time till it appears... lawmakers are not against profits, that notion is ignorant....

it also says that it's in case that the EMPLOYER recommend the person stays home... THE EMPLOYER, if it's the employee's choice no, if it's the EMPLOYER'S recommendation then they get paid. it's easy, if the employer wants to avoid paying them, they don't recommend they stay home...

copish??

no not at all. so lets say i run a restaraunt. and your ass has the pig flu and you are my waiter/waitress. you tellin me i cant tell your dumbass not to come to work and infect all my staff and customers possibly killing someone? and i have to pay you? so now i cant afford to get extra help to run the restaraunt. how do you propose i deal with that, tell everyone else they get a dollar an hour pay cut? no, i dont copish. thats fucking ridiculous and makes it virtually imposible to any business to plan and strategize so you can remain in business.

and if my business fails now i cant wait around a half a year to get my rebate. your speculation of "possible" govt goodies down the road is a bunch of pie in the sky. oh, thank you mr polition sir, you are robbing my lifes work but thanks for giving me some back...ludicrous.

further, there are some schools that have in the neighborhood of 80% of the students absent because they have the flu. now tll e how my business is gonna survive if i have to pay 80% of my employees for being sick? i think with your attitude you might make an excellent politician. probably fail like a mofo as a businessman who employes people. but sure would do good stealing from more hard working folks.

it's easy, if the employer wants to avoid paying them, they don't recommend they stay home...
no not at all. what you are saying is i pay either way. i cant avoid paying them.

let's say you don't run a restaurant cuz you don't, you dnt know enough of the food-service industry cuz if you did, you'd know the implications of a sick worker...

the school analogy is not really equal at the moment because in that case the parents are leaving their kids home for their own good. protecting their kids, use analogies that are actually valid, if you want to make a point.

if me, as an employer with 3 employees, have one that might have swine flu, like a real concern, not a stuffy nose, real flu-like symptoms, and I choose to tell that person to stay home, yes I should pay them. It is in the best interest of society, my other employees, my business and myself that person stays home, even if I get to pay their salary those days.....

again, that is in the case the EMPLOYER chooses to recommend the worker stays home.

it is easy to circumvent the law, just don't recommend shit, and wait till they get so sick they can't come to work, then it's on you if they infect your other workers and you end up with most of those workers sick, scrambling to get your work done....

if you don't recommend they stay home you don't have to pay them past their sick/vacation days, because the law only talks about employees YOU RECOMMEND THEY STAY HOME. IF YOU DIDN"T RECOMMEND YOU DON'T PAY SHIT...

need me to explain it again??????

yep, definitely a good politician with little to no experience at running a business. its your calling. keep making laws that hurt business, dumbass.

just for the record, i have started 4 businesses in my life. 2 wildly successful with about 20 employees. 2 mildly/breakeven successful. and i can honestly say, you havent a clue about running a small business during a financial crunch. which i think everyone would agree that we are in a economic downturn.

OK, here's what you're missing: As an employee, you, and the labor you produce, are a commodity on the labor market ... and that's it. You are only as valuable to an employer as that which you produce. When you are too sick to work, you have no value as an employee/commodity. Therefore, when an employer asks you to go home because you are too sick to work, why should the employer pay you when you aren't worth anything? And in moving forward, if you infect other employees, you are making them worthless as well, thereby costing the employer further profits and perhaps even future business as a result of declining service to his customers.

Or, perhaps on the other hand, you think the world owes you a living?
