How far to keep 1000w hps from plant

OK guys just got new light and I'm testing the waters with distance. I have found this cool Lil chart(below) on another forum, my question is according to this chart if my light is 36in away from the girls is the corresponding number the amount of lumens my plant is getting. And if so is that sufficient enough light.(yes I know they will live with that light I wanna know if its the best I can do) I have a few plants at different heights and stage of life tallest is 19in from light shortest is 36in from the light. Thanks for your input guys!!
