How far 400w?

I have purchased a 400w hps/mh kit. Its my first hps and i was woundering how far should the light be from the top foliage? If u can include how far at what stage in growth if you can?

probally around 12-16 inches or so do the hand test hold the back of your hand and canopy level if it is to hot for your hand its to hot for your plants

^^this is the golden rule. the hand test is your best bet. depending on how well you cool your light you may be able to get them a lot closer, but your hand will tell you exactly where the burn point is.

Different strains will respond differently. I would say at least 12" away maybe more...

i do mine 10-12 in with a fan over the canopy
