How do you go a week without watering?

I will be going out of town for a week next month. My plants will be alone for that time and I need to figure out a plan. Here is the setup. I have 3 soil plants going, each is in its own square pot. The pot dimensions are 13"x13"x12". Heat and fresh air is not a problem. It appears that right now at week 2 the plants stay moist for up to about 4-5 days with about a gallon split among the 3. So how can I extend the moisture for just a few more days without drowning them? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'm new but... Couldn't you put them on a shelf or something high and use a wick in like a bottle of water??
(Not sure it would work. Jus a idea.)

hm. u may be new but thats a great suggestion. even better than the one im about to say.

with cfls in a big pot with soil, u only water about once a week after a full saturation. a big difference between cfls and hps. if u use hps or mh maybe u could switch them out for a few cfls while your gone? personally i might try mr_dro's suggestion.

Lol, wow. I jus joined here today and jus started my germ today lol. I jus read something earlyer bout swamp/pond growing and it said you never have to water them and I thought it'd work.

thanks guys, right now I have the plants under 2 4' fluorescent tubes and 2 cfls. That wick idea is pretty sweet. I might have to try that. Also maybe I will saturate them till water runs out and see how long it will stay moist.

Lowes has a plant spike waterer, it looks like a 1 litre bottle that is upside down with a stake on it. you fill it up and stick it in the soil and when the soil gets dry it waters the plant, they run about 15 a piece in the garden section

I'd just give them a little more water then normal and use some mulch. Old cow shit works great for my plants, there's also tons of other mulches you can use in an article from the GrowFAQ > https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=206. Try to keep the temperature down so the mulch doesn't make your plant too warm.

Dude, i was at Wally world yesterday. They have some planters that employe a type of wicking system. 24" would fit three 8" pots. Under $10.00. they say you can water less often. Check it out. VV

You could spead out some peat moss on top of your soil fairly thick, this will keep a blanket of moisture ontop of your soil, water before you leave this and should give you the extra few days you need.

Wow and to think I was worried about this problem. Thanks again for all the ideas, now I just need to narrow them down.

Should I mix the nutes like normal?
