How do you clean YOUR bong?

after the forming process, some containers—particularly those intended for alcoholic spirits—undergo a treatment to improve the chemical resistance of the inside, called internal treatment or dealkalization. This is usually accomplished through the injection of a sulfur- or fluorine-containing gas mixture into bottles at high temperatures. The gas is typically delivered to the container either in the air used in the forming process (that is, during the final blow of the container), or through a nozzle directing a stream of the gas into the mouth of the bottle after forming. The treatment renders the container more resistant to alkali extraction, which can cause increases in product ph, and in some cases container degradation.
thanks for this, its something i was curious about a few months ago...

lol ill show you proof tonight buddy, serious my pipe is overdue for some cleaning... It fades, it doesnt clean all the color away
Do eet! But how would I know that wasn't the original color :) Lol. I would think the color is in the glass, unless its a one colored pipe. I'm thinking of the pipes that have swirls and slight coloring not actual colored glass like the green coke bottles.

Yea, I was cleaning my bubbler and people were saying don't use acetone etc etc so I looked it up on wiki but didn't find anything. Then did a little more sleuthing because of this thread.

Also, since the alcohol is only in there for a short while, not sitting for years, it shouldn't cause a problem.

for years i've enjoyed using bongs, but hated trying to clean them. There is nothing nastier than a "foul" bong!
last christmas, my son gave me a bong that i really love, but how to clean it?
about 6 months ago i came across a little tip that turned my "bong world" around: 91% alcohol & epsom salts. This combination will make your bong spotless and sterile! And for about $3.00 for a 6 months supply, it beats the hell out of this deal:> http://www.greenglassclean.com/shop/
good luck & good grow.......bb bongsmilie

dont waste your money on any expensive products!

I use very allmost boiling water with a disolved dishwashing tablet or the powder.
Leave it to steep for 10 mins after giving it a good shake it works a treat!

How can I get rid of sodium deposits out my bong? Maybe some CLR?

Really? Are you serious?
yeah. its an antiseptic... and leaves a minty flavor... lol!

(for a heavy clean, alcohol is best but a rinse with listeriene always makes things sparkle...)

Well Guys, I'm blown away on several levels!
The response is amazing, I had no idea so many folks would have input.
However......Boiling water?....Flamables in a microwave??.....expensive, exotic chemicals?.....Bongs in bags of salt and alcohol to be "violently" shaken?...oh yeah, don't forget the "Listerine"!..........C'mon!! Keep it simple: 1/2 teaspoon of the cheapest Epsom salts, and 1 ounce of 91% isopropyl alcohol, PERIOD!
Cork off the mouthpiece and stem end, gently rock end to end for a minute.
I do this daily and ALWAYS have a pristine piece, as shown below.
To the person who's Roor came out "calcium streaked"; this is NOT from the salt and alcohol. Most likely it's some unremoved residue, try it again!
Wishing all, good luck & good grow.......BB bongsmilie

ive cleaned many pipes like the way i described above. when i clean my color changing pipes they get what i call "reset". it takes the color out but when u start smoking again the color comes right back. ive broke all my pipes though! concrete porch is a bitch!

ALSO if u spend $500 on a pipe that glass should be so thick you shouldnt have to worry about it breaking!!!

If you just want to clean the bowl part of your bong, boiling water works well. Only thing is, you need to have a pot dedicated to cleaning your pipe, because the pot will probably be ruined for cooking say, food.
For just cleaning your bowl on a bowl to bowl basis, the new Kashtray is an ashtray specifically designed for pipes and bongs, and it will be coming out soon.

formula420 is a rip, have u smelled it?? Now smell ur bottle of rubbing alcohol....yea its the same shit with some blue coloring and a slight orange scent+an abrasive. It works dont get me wrong but is not worth 10$ name if u can alternate w/ 2$ salt and iso. They make 2 diff kinds and ones for acrylic and one for glass, if u use the glass cleaner on acrylic it will break down the acrylic just a little fyi. And whoever said that iso breaks down glass is wrong, if alcohol broke down glass then we wouldnt have 90% of liquors in glass bottles and i wouldnt use them to clean glassware in the lab-glass is inert.
For cleaning my Glass bong I remove the down tube and clean that with a drop of cilitbang, sorry, CILTIBANG,!!, as they say on the advert., drop of that on a pipe cleaner or cotton bud, that cleans all rresidue by sticking it to the cotton bud when you rub it round the sides. then quirt Ciltibang in warm water, water in the bowl wish round,.get over all the side on the inside, allow to settle for min, then swish out and rinse warm water. The citlibang dosnt strip glass but will take all the nasty stuff away with it., If you use a tube cleaner for the down tube dont brush to hard as that will screatch the glass, and my small plastic bong, 'gertrud' I take apart take gauze out and bung in my dish washer on the 45 degree c setting, low as Im not sure if thr plastic is thermo-setting or not. Its clean as new, abit faded after years of washs but clean and stink free.
If I have left my glass bong out over night with out emtpying the water I squirt cilit in and swich round, empty, then rinse and it dont smell no more. I swear by that stuff.

Take it easy..

Hello Bunnyface, I just googled "CILTIBANG", and got zip! So I tried "CILLTIBANG", and got 8 entry's, in Dutch, Spanish, and other languages, but no English. This appears to be some kind of European oven cleaner, and not in the North American market.
So I'll just stay with a few cents worth of salt & iso.......BB
