With copper cables, and 99.99999% or elec stealers get busted as the big companies spend big bucks working out where their energy goes.
Most companies are happy for you to grow and pay them a small % of your profit for the service they provide. And wont even grass you up unless they think your growing enough to knock out the whole town

I find it very funny that we are all more afraid of the cops then we are live power...except you...you are afraid of live electricity with cops coming in a close second...lol. Hilarious that everyone is quick to say don't do it you will get caught, but I never see anyone examine the fact that we are talking about live power lines....including me! So kidos for having some preservation instinct...I figure once you are near the power you would think about it though...I mean you can feel it..hear it..sense it in the air, but still I never have told someone not to do it because it is dangerous, and I wouldn't do it because of the legal ramifications more than the safety issues...
You just seem to be better prioritized than the rest of us. So congrats...

anyone who's stealing power for a large commercial grow is an idiot. if you are growing that many plants then just invest in a diesel continuos use generator and run the grow off the grid. power companies can detect the difference in billed kWh versus consumed kWh off a single transformer. if their is a difference then they will know immediately and send an inspector out to check all of the homes on that transformer. it won't be long before they discover what you are doing. the line will have to be tapped somewhere between the service drop and the meter branch terminal. it's pretty hard to hide that type of work from someone who know's what they are looking for. and with the new smart meters they can actually determine theft by reading the neutral return on your individual meter. not worth it.
