How "dark" does dark have to be for flowering?

Hey everyone,

I just started flowering my two plants but i need to know how dark it has to be. I have them in a closet for the dark period, but im worried that the cracks (i.e. under the door) may not allow them the proper darkness. Im sure there are easy solutions like tape, but i need to move the doors, so i was hoping for suggestions or if what i have going right now is do-able.:-?

any light leaks are bad, and can cause stretched out or fluffy buds. it can also be enough to delay flower times by weeks, and trigger hermie in weak progency...

I have cracks in my closet, and there is no problem with the lights in the bedroom on. I always thought my incandescents in my bedroom wouldn't affect the plants because it wasn't a usable source of light.

i think a towel would probably do just fine.
just throw it down under the door and it should be good.

during the first few weeks, light leaks wont do much since there is no bud to hermie. as soon as there is bud, any light that touches it will most likely result in a hermie. try not to let even the slightest bit of light get in, put a blanket over the door and a towel under it. you can also do what fdd said and use weather stripping like i do, it works perfectly to seal the cracks. you can also use this thick metallic sided tape to seal it all off, my friend did that for the duration of his grows.

I have a closet with sliding doors. I just put a big blanket up covering the entire closet. I know it would look suspicious to people and a bit impractical but its in a room so i never had a problem with it.

hmm, thanks for the post. I was wondering the same thing myself. I have to keep my closet door open when my light is on, so I suppose I will be making sure it's light tight and closing it everyday as soon as it turns off. Not sure if I will remember all the time though, and since my light comes on early in the morning when I go to bed I have to open up my closet. Any thoughts on that? It is dark outside, so I am sure it's much darker in my closet then at night, but you guys are acting like it needs to be pitch black like your eyes couldn't even adjust to the darkness... Hope I don't get hermi's....

this is said without any real empirical backing so really it means nothing, but i was thinking the moon produces a little light, so as long as its consistent and not brighter than moonlight, you might be alright. Of course I dunno what kind of light the moon produces but whatever.
