How cold can outdoor plants survive in?

Oh they can definitely handle below 10c. That's 50f. It's been getting like 36f which is 4 degrees above freezing at 32f. And they are good. I'm just worried about a hard freeze at 28f.
Oh yeah of course i mean if you consider all the places that weed grows traditionally it aint all hot or dry and it certainly wouldnt have lasted so long if it wasnt so adaptable and hardy theres some ruderal strains that even require a freeze n thaw to even pop in there natural environment like say siberian for example

Hey guys in I'm Denver and tomorrow night is doing to be 28 for the low. Now it's only going to be 28 for a few hours and warm back up to 50-60.

My plants are huge like 6 to 7 feet tall.

Will they be okay?
For sure would find a way to cover that beautiful beast. Definitely would bring a bucket or 2 of water and/or a heater to that space. Pain in the arse or not, cover it. Frost is an immediate death for thin leaf plants such as these. Doesn't matter how long the frost lasts. FROST: Not be confused with low temp. As soon as a plant frosts, the cell membranes burst and the plant is toast. So, don't hesitate and get her taken care of and she'll live to see another day.

I’m just going to speak from experience and have to disagree. A couple nights ago it dropped below zero. I have 4 plants out there. Not only was there a frost, but the plants also got rained on that afternoon. There were many parts that frost was pretty heavy. The sun came out that morning. All the plants perked up. One of the 4 reverted a bit to looking pretty sad. But I have 3 that returned to pre-frost looking plants. Not only perked right up, but have noticed over last couple days the resin production has increased (due to cooler temps), and further ripening has taken place. There’s no doubt the bud growth has slowed right down, possibly even stopped. But these girls are most certainly still alive, and continue to ripen. Just saying frost is not a certain death.

I get that it is POSSIBLE but why risk 25% death when a little prep can save the whole crop? Not all of yours survived if I am hearing you right. 1 in 4 died? I don't like those odds. Best to be prepared.

I can agree that a frost doesn't mean certain death. That is why I specified a frosted plant, not one exposed to a frost. BIG difference. I have had frosts where just the grass outside was coated but not the plants. I have had hard frosts that were on the plant and they subsequently died. I also speak from experience. I would much rather put the effort forward to ensure my plant not only survives but thrives after a hard frost. Not willing to risk all the hard work on should, could, maybe. Plus, it can't hurt his plant, only help.

I agree with protecting the plants. Never said I didn’t. Was just disagreeing with frost is an immediate death. My plants were also wet. So dry plants can definitely handle a light frost. And the 4th plant is still alive. It just didn’t recover 100%. I have a tap awning I use to keep them dry. Just got surprised by the rain that day.

Just out of curiosity, were they shielded from wind on any sides and what kind of climate are you in, dry/moist climate? I'm at an elevation of 8k ft and dry.

I’m in the Shuswap in BC. The tarp only covers them above. The sides are wide open. Did this purposely so airflow still moves through all sides. It’s been rainy more and more here lately. Just trying to keep em dry and finish to fully ripen with out rot. So far so good. Harvested 2. 4 still out there. Been getting down to 33F(1C) temps with that one day -2C I think it hit at night it’s seems like over a week now. Had that pretty hard frost in there too. Growth has stopped I’m quite sure. But at those temps to be expected. Resin production and ripening continues.

My dad and i used to put sheets over our orange trees during hard freezes. Works like a charm...if ur facing extreme stuff and cant get sides up on those tarped ones, drape bed sheets gently right on the plants.

Nice! Come Monday the overnights are all above zero. And the suns back. So just get through the weekend rains with tarp up. Keep em dry, than hopefully those last 2 weeks bring em to the finish line. Shouldn’t have to cover further.
