How close to rooting is this clone?

It's not black.. How do I prevent this from rotting if i chop it and knock off those two closest nodes?

Can we get a better pic? Maybe from farther off?

Depending on how big it is you may be able to cut higher up and try again.

What is your method of cloning?

Should It go right into soil?
I'm using rapid rooters. I've had 100% success with seeds by them just staying wet. These seem to rot everytime with clones.

The two little clones have two short fat roots started, what's the next step on those two? The roots are only a couple mm long, maybe 3-4mm. I think they were kept a little bit less moist, but they could easily die.. Should I put more rooting hormone on those two?

Can't get a better pic. I cut it up higher, scraped it so there is a pretty wide white circle on the angle.. Freshly dashed bit of rooting hormone and I'll keep it less moist. I'm using rapid rooters and a dome in 18/6 light.

If I can't get clones to take big roots then life is going to get rough around these plants. I'm through playin with them. So far out of 15 clones all have died except these current 3. Of the last batch 2/6 started roots but failed to push them all the way through the rapid rooter and ended up dying somehow. This time 2/3 have roots at day 7, but even smaller than the last ones that failed and died. I'm going to have to pay attention to these.

Question:
Do the roots of clones grow as fast as roots of a seed?
Does extra rooting hormone help when roots have started to appear? Will the area of the cut that healed/maybe rotting affect the small roots?

Another option that I've personally seen great success with is just making your cut and sticking the cutting in a cup of water and leaving it. It'll take a couple weeks to root, change the water weekly. But just leave it alone in the water and it'll root basically 100%. My neighbor clones this way. He takes cuts right before flower, they take about a month to have enough roots to transplant, a month which he changes the water if he remembers, then he transplants and they veg for a month before they get thrown into flower. He takes new cuts from them before he puts them into flower. Rinse and repeat.

His cups sit on the floor of his veg room, they need very little light and average conditions. No dome necessary, no misting necessary. Just cut and leave alone, change water every so often.

how deep is the water? Solo cups will be okay?

How big are the clones you're talking about? Does size matter? The two that have roots starting are like 2.5" long and the one that rotted was probably 5". 2-8" are the recommended sizes.. I believe any longer was just fine as well, but it takes some carving, and smaller ones don't have much energy.

What about taking those two out of the rapid rooters and finishing them in just water?

You don't use any nutrients?

Im no pro by no stretch
Your rapid rooters may be too wet
Squeeze them till no waters coming out
only just damp

Heres something maybe you can try

Take. A cut put root hormone on
there i like dip n gro
And clonex

Put in the brown spongie

Put it in 32 ounce cup
put clear plastic over top
tape it or small rope tie it on
Put couple small holes in bottom of cup

Put cup in corner
and leave it alone
Dont touch it


My problem
when i was trying to learn was
I kept it to wet


When your trying learn allso
Cooler temps are better
instead of warm

Try a couple like that

Thats my experience
anyhow

I slit that rapid rooter
so i can open it up
and look whats goin on in there

But try it
Less water
just damp
and cooler temps
Try it experiment

And then if all else fells

If you could keep a momma plant
i think u said u cant though

Wrap a rapid rooter around a limb
on plant little root hormone on it too
Staple ziplock bag around it
keep it moist
Youll have clones
i use needles to keep them moist
i do them like that outdoors

Aerocloner with just tap water.

If you can't afford that, put the clones in a clear 3" glass, 3/4 full of water in the windowsill, and mist a couple of times per day.
