how big of a pot do you need?

Sorry, I forgot to answer the OPs question

Look up Air Pots. They work great , and will last for many grows (sorry no picks in action). I stuffed mine with lots of polished rock/stones and used a Hydro Halo drip rings over a one gallon pot

Here's the stones in a F & D tote, but the principal and technique are the same in Air Pots

I start in 3" net pots (see pic). When ready I transfer them into a one gallon net pot lid which fits perfectly. I then side fill with more stones and lower onto the one gallon AP. add the Hydro Halo drip ring and let er rip

Im going to go back to it next grow at least in one tent
You putting weed or fish it that pot ? Would go good in my 100ltr fish tank

5 gal you can grow any size plant almost in hydro... Soil is a mess and heavy if you have to move it and you need bigger pots for bigger plants less pests in hydro as well

Five gallon buckets are useless in hydro imo. Even my 13 gallonbuckets would fill to the max with roots. It’s why I use 27 gallon hdx totes in rdwc setup.

Understood just my opinion I doubt most people want to veg so long the roots get that big unless its a 4 plant closet grow if that to much water to tend to imo ill get more use out of a 5g

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. The Net Pot lid is upside down so you can see the drainage potential in a drip system. When in place, the AP under it is half empty. I added some stones to give the roots a place to anchor. I also cut one down to eliminate the air space
