How and when to use potash and coffee grounds?

So I need to start giving my baby some nutrients but I am broke. I do have some of that blue crystally stuff from miracle grow that you mix in water, but a lot of people here and on the web advise against it.

So I've read that used coffee grounds and ash work as fertilizers and those are two things I have, but I have no clue how to apply them, or in what quantity, or when.

Anyone know?

I use the coffee grounds on a steady basis along with the ferts. They also get all my left over coffee. Ash will increase your ph. I use them sparingly when at all.
I've used the shit out of MG.Overdose. It's not the first choice but it works. I have especially sandy soil perhaps why they never burned on me. It does hurt the taste if used too far into flowering.

I haven't used coffee grounds, supposed to be pretty acid and good nitrogen source?
Have used potash(wood ashes) which can be very good if used properly. Pretty much pure pure potassium and raises the ph. Must be cautiously or you will go to high with ph. I've used 1 tbps per 2 quarts of water. That raised my ph a bit, but not dramatically.
The acid coffee grounds and basic wood ash could mix well together, but you really need to be able to measure the ph to keep in the 'zone'.

Thanks guys, all very helpful. Couldn't I mix some powdered egg shells in with the coffee grounds to decrease the acidity? I've read that egg shells can act as lime in gardens which I believe should help decrease the acidity of the grounds and not harm the plant.

EDIT: Or as growone says, I can just use the ash because it would have the same effect.

Egg shells could be good too. Will be much slower in affecting ph than wood ash. This can be good or bad, depending on circumstances. I think coffee grounds are very quick to lower ph, and are quite acidic. Potash is basically instant, which is not a problem if you carefully measure ph.
