How Am I Doing? First Grow

Hello everyone! This is my first post ever! and as the title says, this is my first grow
I started these in the beginning of april where i started under a table (I know they did not get enough light) and this is a picture of my new setup in my closet which i made a week ago.

I just found this page a week ago and have been taught a lot already. I don't expect anything much from these, but just if you see any big problems which might kill them, please tell.

Short info about the grow:
  • Seeds are KC brains KC33 (some i ordered in 2009 amazingly 3/4 germinated :D)
  • All are around 4.5 weeks old in the picture (What is up with the small one?!)
  • Lights are 2 x 28 watts CFL
  • And I used Tin foil (I thought it was good at the time i know better now, should i just remove?)
  • I have a bathroom fan in the top (it moves 90 m³ per hour lol) which is set to begin when humidity is 50% (it runs for 5 minutes every 8 minutes) and a hole in the bottom for air to come in.
  • I don't know the temp. will get one asap
  • I also just started the flowering.

My next grow will be in better soil, one 125 w CFL and 6 more around 10 w CFL for spreading light during flowering, PH tested water and proper pots. All for 2 Easy ryders AF fem. Plants.

Please don't be too hard on me :dunce:

Hey here are some more pictures :)
Also some closeups, front one looks like a female right? :D (pic 1 and 5)
And the back one has a damaged leaf, it has been like that for over a week, so I'm not really worried since it is not progressing... or should I be? (pic 3)
There are these flies around the plants, are they hostile or is it okay? (pic 1)
I also broke one branch when i repotted :( (pic 2)
Can anyone tell the sex on Picture 6 and 7 (same plant)? or is it too soon?

I will be very grateful for a reply! :)

They are now on day 3 of flowering btw.

6 not sure best to watch 7 female unless that's hair i see the females will have pistils the males will make a bud but no pistils and will eventually form into balls someone also told me not sure if its reliable or not but thos things crossing like that indicates male on 6 thats why i say to watch for pistils. Have you thought about DM liquid light and saturator might enhance your grow next round?

You should do yourself a favor and upgrade to a hps for flower you will be way happier with the results its worth the money.

mixed soils have the ph already done most of the time i ment a ph tester for the water and as far as Denmark goes i really dont know what or where your water comes from here in the USA we have added crap by the tons pumped to us including bleach (bad for plants very high in alkaline) on tap. Question tho is pot legal in Denmark? Just curious cause everyone is always about Holland and Amsterdam but there are much more beautiful places in the world where pot is legal like Bhutan nice place not to many people less of my obnoxious countryman.

Hi ya Nikolaj06 :)

Welcome to Riu :)

You are off to a good start ...your attitude towards trial and error and not expecting to much will serve you well as a grower ..Keep it up :)

Don't let the over flow of info here steer you away from keeping it simple ... People tend to over complicate growing weed ..Keep it simple :)

The tin foil argument has been ongoing and will keep going forever ...If it works ..don't change it ....you can upgrade later :)...I'm yet to see a single pic of a plant thats proved to have burned or hindered growth by the use of tin foil .

If i see right in your pic ...it looks like you have all your plants in one bed of soil .... This could be a problem if your roots are fighting for space .... You should pot them in separate pots.

Keep the lights as close to the tops of the plants as is possible ..... raise the smallest plant up on blocks to around the same hight as the tallest plant .

Other than that ....

Good luck with your first grow ...i think your doing just fine :).... keep reading up though :)

Peace

We have very clean and nice water :) And it is illegal to grow, but they don't care much for small time growers, they are after the big crime rings in Denmark.

Thank you very much! I started out with quite high expectations but I toned it a lot doiwn after I found this site :b

Yeah if you want your high expectations met grow outdoors lol. But try the liquid light for real and if you can get some bloombastic for the end its like magic THC juice.

Liquid light? :b

I also have some I'll probably put in the garden sometime soon, i just want it to be warm enough (Denmark is cold lol)

Just a wee bit scared to the neighbours.. Say, is it possible to move a plant around 70 cm tall without much damage? I mean, I can plant them in the open untill they get big enough to get lighting in the more stealthy areas of my garden.. like.. how long will the roots be?

Looks like a decent start! I would suggest, if you're unable to lower your lighting, to raise them up to get them closer to the light. Use a box or whatever you have lying around that's sturdy enough (don't risk disaster!), under your plants to get them up closer to the light. You can probably get the tallest within 2 to 3 inches if not closer.

Because nobody has really mentioned it yet, the flies are not your friends. Depending on the type of fly, you could have larvae eating your roots! There are several ways to handle pests, depending on how you want to go about it. Easiest, cheapest way would be to put a small cup of beer or sugar water in your space. It won't kill them super fast, but as they hatch they'll be drawn to your trap and drown. You won't have to add anything to your plants or most likely buy anything. If you have beer around, it works better. Drunk flies drown faster ;-)

Ignore the florescent haters. If your looking for small and somewhat inexpensive floro is great! I would suggest adding more lights though. A few spiral tubes make a big difference! Also the spectrum of light plays a big part in your outcome. During flower you want something more in the red/orange spectrum. Between 2700 - 3000 kelvins, often called warm whites as well. Stay away from the cool whites, they're no good for growing!

I also wouldn't discount the ph thing. I had serious issues all because my ph here is around a 9 on average. YAY Chlorine! I lost a Chocolope clone because of it :dunce: If you're not seeing any yellowing or anything your probably ok. But if you start to have yellowing issues or leaf die off, first thing I would do is check your ph because that's often the culprit. Ph too high or low stops the plant from being able to absorb nutes in your soil/fertilizing.

Keep it up, you're doing well! A few minor adjustments could really help you out though and I would do it quickly. Since you've gone to flowering you've told the plants to stop growing up and make pretty flowers now. You'll still see some more veg growth for about 2 weeks or so, then it will really start to slow down and focus on bud formation.

I'm not trying to seem bossy, so don't take this the wrong way. I'm just trying to help out a fellow newby and share what I've learned, so maybe you can avoid the losses I experienced. :peace:
