Honeycomb Help please!

whats up everyone.. been doing a few runs lately and i wanna just say i should have started with smaller amounts rather than big amounts because i think i've screwed both my big batches. The consistency I desire is honeycomb despite it being the obvious inferior form and i am well aware. My initial purge is my pyrex on top of my griddle (outside ofc) at about ~120F.. I ran about a pound of trim with about 24 cans.. my tube holds supposedly 100-150g, I don't got a scale atm so i'm in the dark about it but at the end of my 2nd can the liquid is almost clear. I do a Styrofoam cup test where i let a few drops fall into a styrofoam cup just to see color. Anyway I blasted and blasted.. let the bubbles evap and when ready I began to whip like a madman (followed FarmerJohn420's vid) and scraped everything to my silpad and straight to the vac. My whipping wasn't too long was that the issue as to why it didn't budder? I purged for about 2-3 hours without heat. Should I put it on heat while purging? I feel like if i do my griddle will burn the shit out of it despite it being on the lowest setting?

This is after first 2-3 hour vac purge.

This is the next morning, I turned the pump off and let it sit in the chamber overnight.

Just to recap cause i want to run a smaller amount (qp) or something to perfect the homeycomb. Again i understand honeycomb is inferior to other forms but i love the consistency too much to care.

Pack tight. Original blast will be on pyrex on top of a griddle at about 110-120F (my griddle goes off and on so idk if i can trust it). Then after bubbles sit, whip? Then throw in vaccum for what time intervals and what temps? Use a griddle or water heat? When i leave it overnight griddle will probably make more sense.

You should try runnin all your trim through a dry ice sieve. Thatll take your lb down to about a qp and if you want to do a qp itll probably take it down to an oz.

Ive found that this helps because not only are there less plant fats but you also use 1/4 the butane. And dry ice generally cost about $2 a lb but where i get it has a minimum of 5 lb.

Also try putting a metal brownie pan or another pyrex dish that will hold your bho dish on the griddle and fill it with water. Thatll help keep a better, consistent temp on your bho.

Thanks for the hastily response and cool suggestion! Unfortunately i am gonna carry out on the bho setup i have because not only do i love it and have fun extracting but i invested a lot on the equipment and such to stop so early. I wanna perfect the comb before i try other methods!

As for the pyrex within a pyrex i think im gonna try that.. for the people that leave it overnight to purge, will the griddle keep the water warm throughout the night? or is this only for the initial purge

Edit: honeycomb experts, is this inital muffin in the pictures above what its supposed to look like? And for anyone wondering why its spread out instead of 1 big glob in the middle because when i tried scraping the oil of the pyrex to the oil pad it was extremely sticky and got hard really fast so it was a hassle. Anyone know why?

depending on the type of trim, I wouldnt recommend the dry ice method. ive made BHO with pure kief before... turned 2 oz into .5 oz and ran it and it wasnt anything special, nor was the yield.

24 cans is a lot though for a LB, even good trim I think its a bit much. doesnt look like you got much of a return from 1lb. do you mean 1lb fresh leaves sorta thing?? or 1LB bottom of the bag crumbs, almost smokable stuff??

honeycomb has a lot to do with the freshness of the material, and the strain. some just wont honeycomb up nicely ive found.

do NOT pack "tight" pack it with a pound or so of force at the most, nothing crazy though. just to get more in... then once the lid is on, if you can, I hit the extractor a few times to loosen it all up and shake it up a bit.

I achieved honeycomb the other day by accident.... I DIDNT vac purge it... I just whipped some oil in the dish, made it a nice light color and a nice circular blob, while it was still purging right after the spray.... it purged and bubbled in the dish for a few days, and I stirred it every 4-6 hours or so for a day or 2... until it was almost done purging... its final bubble up/muffin (naturally... no vacuum) stayed that way and dried out... gave it a few more days and it was still dried out in a nice little honeycomb form. it looked like a sponge that was cut in half. possibly a tad underpurged though.... but easy honeycomb!!! no vacuum. just whip some underpurged stuff every few days, let it do an air purge, no heat, and one of its last muffins just leave it dry out, few more days and itll purge... mine did.

a lot of people here are using reptile sand from a pet shop and getting it warm in the oven or something for a nice consistant, lasting heat. I still use a dish of water though, and not while youre blasting.... keep the fumes to a minimum until youre inside the house. I use cold/frozen butane for this reason... zero fumes until I set it into the dish of warm water and get the hell inside, just in case... no need to watch it boil, breathe the fumes and risk getting burnt. it hurts, trust me!!!!!!

No problem! but i wasnt suggesting that you switch to only a dry ice sieve. But only that you use the dry ice to cut back the amount of total product you have to run. by turning a qp into an oz then running that through the bho tube while using alot less bho which means itll take less time to purge/whip.

Im pretty sure it wont take away any taste from the original trim bho.

Just my 2 cents haha

i put mine in the vac chamber and let it set for 5 to 10 mins to get my oil up to 120 130 then i turn the pump on, this makes it not muffin as much, and dont whip your stuff.

i also leave my chamber sitting on my griddle over night with both on, with a continuous vacuum

Thanks for the responses guys really helpful..

young gentlemen with some good experience i'd say riddled me this but did not care to tell me how he made his godlike comb because he made it on "accident"

Pack tight, 1 can/1oz nugs, trim i use for edibles, double boil on griddle temp 110, let purge until as much tane has evap. , scrape , heat and spread across pad and vac on heat @ 110 @ 29hg if possible if not it'll just take longer, continue to vac until no reaction and is stable. = shatter.
keyword = SHATTER... EQUALS SHATTER. :fire:

someone EQUAL honeycomb to me :( i know it varies on so many factors that its kinda hard to have ONE step by step method but theres gotta be some solid guideline.

I make honeycomb at 105degrees...
i have had some stuff auto wax up but that was over an extended period of time, i mean days, and it was really good material i started with

usually the better the starting material the faster it waxes up

No whip, shits too messy for that and I aint trying make instant wax, if you're whipping to get your honeycomb you're in too much of a hurry imo... I'm about terrines, high, smoothness, taste!!

please explain what auto waxing is, I'm confused. I do nothing but purge, no preplanning or anything involved.

i wish i could, whenever i blast fresh buds a couple of times i have left a little bit stuck to a knife or blade of even the pyrex and i would go back after a week to reblast, i didnt clean up and the stuff left over waxed up...

the world of bho is filled with mystery
