I had to put the syringe in a lightly heated (about 200deg. f) oven a minute or so a couple times to warm it back up so that it would flow through again. Maybe for next harvest round I will get a glass syringe to help hold the heat a little longer.

Ya man warm oil does filter better through the cartridge. Thx for sharing your experiences

Dont forget your media paper or filtering agents. Make sure you use the right agent/paper for the proper filtration

I put down filter paper,DE then carbon.I'm in need of a de source.I've been using celite which is a bit of pia to find.Have you seen best value vacs is into that game now? WAY OVERPRICED!

Celite 545 stops fines from passing thru filtration in the buchner funnel. It doesnt do anything else.

Perfectly fine, I use it in my buchner funnels when filtering all the time.

Using an oil filled vac pump, when filtering ethanol, can, and may damage your vac pump, due to it Ingesting etoh vapors. Reason why we use diaphram pumps

No.Use activated carbon.Made from hardwood I believe.You can find it in health food stores and/or online. That's the trickiest part of the process I use.Making the de pad and carbon pad to go on top.I'm sure there are easier ways,I just have a fun time doing it.It's been an exciting hobby where I've learned some cool things.

How is using DE, and celite any different from using filter paper?

I am trying to figure out what the purpose of the celite 545 is other than as a hype product that just uses a lot of vague buzz words like "take the clarity up" and "much clearer."

This words don't mean anything...

Forgive me for being so harsh, but I have looked this stuff up and I have seen a few videos and I don't see what the big deal is about using it.

The only purpose I can see by using the silica products would be to cause the separation of the terpenes, CBD and THC, but using a Buchner funnel doesn't allow enough contact time for that to happen (column chromatography).
So, are you filter stacking to prevent clogs, using the celite 545 as a "bulk" filter and the activated carbon to help with clarity and to remove impurities, because if that's the case, why not save about $50 and make filter stacks with activated carbon and finer filter papers with each layer.

Just curious...

p.s For those using DE, celite 545 (and even activated charcoal to a lesser degree), exercise some caution with these things. They are all silica and over time exposure to fine silica dust can cause silicosis.
Silicosis is one of those things that takes forever for symptoms to show up, but when they do it's too late to do anything about it.
The condition is not reversible and the only treatment is palliative to help ease symptoms.
So it may not seem like you are doing damage to yourself at the time, but the exposure adds up...
Just be a little care when dealing with things like this, that play for keeps...

I use the 545 to prevent the carbon from getting into the frit.Im interested in all techs,I dont think you're being harsh,safety is important to me.
I've always been paranoid with how fine 545 and carbon is,I wear a respirator every time I mix that up.

Taking care of your health is never a bad idea.

Wearing a respirator and preferably doing the "cake packing" and initial washing outside or in the garage is a good idea.

Once it is wet it is safe, only the dust is harmful.

Celite 545 is just a filter agent for fine particles. Its the 1st cake you put down in a fritted buchner funnel.

Activated charcoal pulls color, as well as a bit of thc (room temp or warm etoh)

Alumnium oxide blocks chylorphyl in buchner funnel if you dont wi terize good enough.

How much pressure does it take to pull an extract through the Celite 545?
I suppose this would ultimately depend on the size of the Buchner funnel and how full it is.
