homemade grow cabinet need light help (pics)

so, my ccabinet is 5 ft high 3 feet wide and 2 ft deep i kno not very large but big enough for me ive seen nice grows in smaller so anyway i have bought my fan, carbon filter, mylar, fan controller, thermoter hydrometer and a few other goodies today well when i was about to press buy for this light http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48956 a 600w hps and this euro reflector http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=49541 fully inclosed cause if not heat would be an issue i was thinking is 600 watt MIGHT BE overkill should i just go with a 400w that way i can get light closer to plants without tourching em cause ive read a few books on this and it says that a 400w should stay 3ft away for ten days so would a 600w need to be further away? if so i have bno room for that


SO MY QUESTION IS IF YOU HAD THIS SETUP WOULD YOU GO WITH A 400W OR 600W AND DO YOU THINK THERE WOULD BE A SIGNIFIGANT DIFFERNCE WITH EAITHER LIGHT ?

3x2, you should be able to get away with a 250W, 400 is a lot in there. 600 too much? Some people say never too much light but,you will have to hold it back farther away from the pants and loose the vertical space. I suspect that you intend to use the fan to vent the box and not the light. If that is the case, I would go down on the watts, keep the light closer and vent the box. If you figure one foot for the pot, this looks like a soil grow, one foot for the light itself and one foot distance between the light and the plants, that's 3 of your 5 feet tall box. Is that what you want?

no im getting a fully inclosed reflector to vent just the light so i can hopefully get the light closer to plants:) and im gunna have a carbon filter and passive intake

I think a 400w would be your best bet. I used a 400w(not air cooled) in a 4' x 2' (8' high) closet and maintained a good temperature. A 600 would be a bit overkill and you would have to fight off the plants from bulging out of that box. How many ladies are goin in?

i think im gunna put twelve in veg and hoefully get 6 when sex is determined and if i get more then 6 fems i will trow the rest away so hort answer is 6

i built basically the same cab at the beginning of the year, i used a 400watt with the euro hood and got 2 zips a plant in 2gal soil. ive since torn it down built a tent and playing with bubbleponics and dwc right now. in about 8 weeks ill be switching to 5x5inch pvc aero set up. but any way off topic, if you vent your cab thru that light hood and use a 400 watt youll have no problems with heat and your lighting will be exelent.

Nice cab just make sure its light tight. 400w looks gtg to me and 600 is overkill. It looks like you go hold around 4 plants. GL
