Homemade Flip Box for L.E.D's

Haven't done a DIY build in forever so here we go!

A few years ago I made the switch from HID lights to LED's. I went kinda crazy and bought 20 of the HLG Qb96 Elite V2. The plan i had for them fell through shortly after the lights were delivered. And my saving grace was i could only get 5 of 20 of the HLG-240-54 drivers i planned on needing. Drivers was on backorder.

So after years of these lights sitting i fired up a few. I been running 2 QB96 on a single 240-54v driver in a 3x3 for a while now and it just doesn't cut the mustard. Its really been just one problem with my smoke and its been lack of density.

I finally caught Covid so since I was stuck in the house what a better time to tackle a grow tent upgrade. I didn't want to buy drivers mainly because I want everything to match as close as possible and I would prefer to buy 2 480-c2100 drivers vs 4 more 240-54v drivers. So I decided to build a flip box like I used when 8 light rooms was huge lol.

Everything is hard wired. It works using a DPDT relay. I use my tents to flower and sometimes veg but I had a dedicated veg area. I flower with 11on/13 off schedule. The flip box uses a separate timer to activate the flip.

Ex. (Driver timer) 12a on 11a off / 12p on 11pm off

(Flip timer) 11:58a on 11:02p off

Important Note: turn the drivers off before the relays are powered on or off!

Shopping list: I already had the 18ga 3 prong power cord and the 16ga awg solid core wire also. I spent around $60 for a 4 light flip box.

With the relays I have i can tell you what wires goes where to make it easier. Everything is wired in parallel. The relay needs to power sources. One for the relay switch and one for the lights.

(*WHEN RELAY ISNT POWERED---RED LIGHT OFF)
Tent#1
Port#1 is Positive to the light
Port#2 is Negative to the light

(*When Relay is powered--- Red light ON)
Tent#2
Port#3 is Positive to the light
Port#4 is Negative to the light

On the other side
Port#5 is Positive for the driver output
Port#6 is Negative for the driver output

Port#7 is Positive for the relay
Port#8 is Negative for the relay

Just playing around pushing the limits of this thing.
I'm giving one of my tents an extra 10-14 days to finish up. My plants for the next round have been neglected so they could use the extra veg time to get back into shape for flower. So I put 2 tents on the same relay so for 11hrs and 59 minutes on side is on and when it flips the other side comes on.

It will give me 23hrs and 58 minutes per day of light in 2 of the tents. Im vegging the with 240w when I was using that much for flower before.

Nice scrog
That was 2 tents worth of plants in one tent vegging but I do trellis and scrog though. I get some what the same results. SCROG gives me consistent bag quality while trellis gives me more weight.
Tent#3 is scrog.

Tent #2 is just double trellis. Nothing was bent over. I used the first layer for spacing and the top layer for support.
