Home roof replacement

Hi everyone. I have a question and hopefully someone in our community have been in my situation. I live in an old home and oneday notice a drip spot on my ceiling. Due to the grease monkey I was smoking, I ignored the spot. However, I noticed it got bigger today!! Long story short, if I call my home owners insurance to come and check out my roof, would they have to come into by basement for any reason? Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advanced and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

How on Earth did it get bigger without all the rain we have not been having? You might have bigger problems, like coordinated squirrels peeing. At that point simply move.

Unless you have a "Home warranty" type insurance a roof is not usually covered unless it was damaged by a storm. Call the insurance company and find out. Roof replacement is common maintenance.

It's been pissing rain for the past two days in Ohio. Weather man calls for more rain the next few days. I checked the attic and no animal dropping. I even had a trap setup and no bite. I think my old roof just needs replacing. I can't check my roof due to being afraid of heights, but yet I get high lol.

Why would your insurance pay for your roof? But no I couldn't imagine why the insurance person would want to go in your basement over a roof leak. And I mean you can always just tell them no, it is your house.

Dont see why anyone would have to go in your basement to look at your roof. Just saying. Or maybe I am just high, but I do not see the relation at all. The attic yes. Basement, no. Unless you exhausting to your attic, I dont see an issue.

Call a general contractor first, they won't go in your basement. They may be willing to work something out with you.eg. over quote the work. They get paid and you split or keep the rest..

I had a tree branch come through the roof a couple years ago. Had to have the insurance guy out to assess the damage and such. He went on the roof and in the room that was damaged. He never went down in the basement.
