Rather a double post sorta but thought I see what is the latest on us home growers for insurance.
Now that it's legal to grow something needs to come to the surface for this huge issue.
It's been a year since folks can grow at home....now what???

What do you think we need?? Crop Insurance.
You flood your house with the RO or burn it down with DIY wiring. Now you don't get arrested after the Fire Dept's gone. Don't know what they can add.

Have you called your agent??
Trouble is my agent is the company itself. But I am working on some other companies.
Sent out email and waiting for results. I'll update any positive info here for sure.
This must effect a lot of med patients who grow their own past 4 plants.

Been a while but I used to use LMG in Duncan bc.. https://www.lmg-insurance.com/mmip They have a program but lots was changing when I stopped using them a few years ago, their requirements went through the roof and needed a bunch of inspections and monitored alarm systems. Be worth a look to find out what they require these days, but be prepared to spend 3x what you would for regular home insurance.

Trouble is if you have an issue reg home insurance will drop you. And not pay the claim. They gotcha if you need em and they were not told your growing more than 4 plants.

Truthfully they have zero right to your medical info and privacy, and by not telling them, you have done due diligence toward keeping this information basically secret, which goes a long way towards protecting your-self from anyone obtaining the knowledge ,,that you grow your own medicine and
could possibly have your full quota of your medical cannabis licence ,on site.
I generally do not see fire as an issue either since most houses these days consist of drywall partitions and the building codes protection for fire resistant building techniques, these pretty much ensure that "generally" contents only fires exist and is why basically if your new house burns completely to the ground, your insurance company already knows that the fire was probably set.
Other wise ( except for the odd exception) the amount of fuel (contents), that would have to be present in one spot of a new house in order to burn thru a one hour fire rating (drywall), when local fire response times are usually under 30 mins... again would be suspect by your insurance anyways
just some reflection.....

Well that all sounds nice Dan but the reality is they specifically state more than 4 and your bye by-o. Not sure how more clear they can make it. I'd say we were warned imo.

Each INS would have to INFORM CLIENTS of any new changes .....

Every year when your invoice comes from the insurance company so does a new batch of paper work. That's where it appears and who really ever reads that little fine print. My company makes it quite clear on their site what the policy is on this issue.
Dman has been through it. I'm trying avoid his plight. As he pointed it it's the customers job to inform them. If you don't your in breech. They do this everyday. The're not asleep either.
I can't say this for sure maybe 5 years ago you might have some lea way....doubt it now. I think part of the idea of insurance is peace of mind. Imo simply not mentioning it to my agent isn't a good enough bet or odds for me. I'll pay more .But I'll sleep properly.

Once I have some credible options in place, and that could be today even, I'll call my own company and have some fun.
I'll get the low down from them directly. I'll post that info as well.

Just call a different local insurance agent and tell them your shopping for home insurance but don’t mention the grow, they will be eager to get you in the office to talk policy and it shouldn’t cost you anything. Ask about the grow in person. They can scan many companies policies to find what suits you
