I'm a little toasty so I will try not to ramble too much. It all started several yrs ago when I accepted the offer to be funded into a commercial setup. All I saw was a carrot in front of my face, and I jumped on the offer not knowing what I was really getting myself into (in terms of mental, physical, and financial investments..always read the fine print).

I started right off the gun not really 100% into it, but after resolving some personal issues sometime later, I started focusing more. Another year or so into it after that, probably right about the time I found RIU.. then I REALLY started getting focused. as some would say here, "learn(ing) what makes a plant tick". I spent countless hours (re)learning and really getting things dialed in. All the while the initial investment, plus rent, plus stupid ass pwr bills (I was running 8-9Kw HPS + fans), the debt got really, really high. Over time this was paid down to where there was only about 10-12% left owed. Granted I made my fair share of mistakes, but I question the original guy's management skills, actual troubleshooting, etc. the spot just never really put it out like it was theorized & hypothetically should. Not to say this guy doesn't know what he is doing, but I dont think he had the actual time put in, and proven, reliable results.. and instead spouted a lot of book knowledge. Even other growers we know had remarks, critiques, and alternative solutions to several things he had done implemented/modified or suggested to the setup, and politely pointed out these mistakes & oversights he had made. I mean, from what I gathered here on RIU, and my limited experience: no 2 spots are a like. right?

It had been a long ride, but like I said, I was finally getting things better after lots of errors, all that jazz. Plus.. I even switched to coco! which by the way, fukkin rocks. Actually my very last cycle was some of the best I had seen come out of my space, so I was really pumped with the transition to this new medium. MUCH PROPS here to the coco guys.. you know who you are.

Anyhoo.. the girls were due really soon, and early one morning, while still dark out, a gang of guys busted into my house. By the time I knew it they were coming up my stairs, flashlights glaring, yelling "Police! Police! get down on the ground". I remember them saying "Growing a lil MJ eh?" as I was shoved onto the ground and (turns out) my hands tied with my own cell phone charger. They obviously knew what I was doing, proceeded to play the po-po part. I never saw any faces, any weapons, they just pretended to grill me about what I was doing at my place. I played into their hand, just figuring I should go along with it. I mean, these are cops right?

This whole time, I'm not really tripping too hard, b/c I was compliant. I had 2 'scrips, wasnt over my limit, had co-op paperwork.. you name it. even legal counsel ready to go. Nevertheless, I didnt have a bunch of weight, no cash, and they chopped down all my girls, stole some electronics, and just bounced. I eventually figured out they werent there anymore, and untied myself, and then checked out the rest of my place..blah blah. That was the final day of my green-thumb, and I moved out immediately.

The investor took back all of the grow equipment, and even other items I had bought to supplement things. All in all, even with a mixture of old, plus fairly new equipment, it was a good chunk of change.. u know? Ideally someone would buy the gear. Which leaves us with the remainder of the debt.

Given those details, and the fact that I was victimized in my home, and never really came out of this with anything after yrs of work -- what % of that remainder do I still owe the guy?

I'd be curious to know your thoughts.

I haven't been back on RIU for sometime since that, but I want to thank everyone who answered all my questions, and tried to help me troubleshoot things. For those of you reading this that are just getting started: I always found it helpful to peruse the relevant forums that I was trying to learn in, and do my best to help try to solve other people's problems. Its good practice & you can learn a lot.

Thanks.

That's a hard lesson to learn, man.

Thinking of getting back into it? Or just no way in hell for that to happen with the financial situation the way it is?

ya you got jacked or ganked whatever they call in today.

I saw a guy that ripped 4 plants off a friend last year he was crossing the street and i knocked him in the gourd for good measure.

Growers have a long memory and dont often forget that Karma is a bitch when crossed.

Those were my plants I gave to my friend because he was starting over after being ripped thats why I socked him one.

It's a tough business to have partners in, no legal recourse means you have to eat the loss even if he was involved in ripping you off. Karma is real, and she is a bitch. At least you did right by not freaking out and going for a pound of flesh.

Sorry to hear of your grief. In my opinion - both of you should take the hit. He got his equipment back - you got nothing but freaked. Under these circumstances I think any ordinary human would work something out. It seems that "the guy" is not an ordinary human. Common sense would tell you that the only way "the guy" is going to recover his investment is by helping you start again. Getting ripped is one of the perils of the business - among the many perils of growing something of immense value. If your neglect had caused the problem - you alone would be responsible. Acts of God and assholes becomes a common problem with no responsible party - just shared suffering. "the guy" is just going to have to understand this.
When I was getting started I had no money to spare but I saved and bought a little at a time. A friend went the other way and found a backer that set him up with a dream grow room. Top of the line - everything! As he was learning the hydro trade (2 failed - 1 partial success) I was slowly growing in dirt and adding a piece at a time. His backer took the losses in stride and with time, my friend dialed it in and is now one of the best growers I know. He still uses the same equipment today, that he started with. I on the other hand, learned from his triumphs and mistakes (and my own) and slowly grew until I now have that same room. The point is that it can be done again - one step at a time. You said that you have dialed it in - use it. If "the guy" continues to be an ass - reach an amount and use the profits from "your grows" to pay the bitch off. It is true that "what doesn`t kill us, makes us stronger". Stay strong brother

Right, I firmly am in belief now that starting off small, and working your way up is the way to go. Unfortunately, this proposition didnt start like that, and as I said in the OP, I didn't read the fine print. I think you're correct that this should be a shared loss. It wasn't from neglect on my part. I hadn't done anything new to my setup, security level, awareness, etc.. as another poster on this thread stated, I'm still not convinced he wasn't in on it, but I have no way to prove that - minus some suspicions, tidbits of personal P.I. work, etc.

But I'm not getting back into this to pay him off, it would have to come out of pocket from my current job.
