I have 25 gallon pot of old soil I've been composting and cooking for my avocado tree that Im going to transplant into it. As I was turning it I found two full grown japanese beetles. i picked one up thinking it was heinekin bottle cap, it tripped me out. A while ago i found a worm like creature that i though was a grub worm. noooooooo it was japanese beetle larva

Your right man I looked into it some more... the grubs that I am seeing in his compost are not Japanese beetle larva thankfully... trying to figure out what kind of larva they might be now

The funny thing is the jap beetle is a shiny metallic green and red. Totally looks like a bottle cap or easter candy from far away. I grabbed it thinking one of my friends threw their trash there. Then its legs started wigglin. I threw it and jumped like a little kid....

Red wiggle worms is what you want.

The USDA Bureau of Entomology will actually identify any insect specimen you send them down to the species, and they'll do it for free. You just have to follow their instructions on how to preserve/ship the specimen and fill out a form, send it to them and wait for a response.

If you live near any good colleges/universities with entomology departments they may also provide such a service.
