HLG 260w xl

Hello all. I just purchased a 260w xl qb from HLG (Grower lights.com). I got it at the 3000k with the intentions of flowering only in a 2'x4'x6' tent. I would like to ask some questions and I am sure I will forget a few so everyone feel free to give advice on anything. First, Hanging distance from plants on day one and then as the days pass, and ultimately the optimum height? Second, how hard to run light on day one and then as the days pass and do I ever run at 100%. Third, will I encounter any deficiencies(calmg, nitrogen). I thank you all!!

I started with a hanging distance of 3 feet when the plants were young, lights dimmed to about 50%
They took a week for them to recover after being started with a very low powered veg light. 20w
Gradually lowered lights over a few weeks & adjusted dimmers to = 300w total in 2x4 with 3 lights.
Currently flowering with lights about 20 inches above.

I see no reason to dim if you have the lights raised above 24"

You mention "flower only" but then ask for advice from day one, if the plant is already mature and flowerring, 16" would cover quite well in a 2x4, most 2x4's dont have much height though

TurboTokes. The mention of day one is for the first day of flower or first day of 12/12 flip. I already have a veg. space going so I am always ready to flower in my flower tent. I veg. for 6-8 weeks usually. I do have 6' of height in that tent and have not had problems with height restriction on any past grow. I do use techniques to keep my girls short and bushy. However, I was under the impression to slowly introduce the "power" of this qb so as to acclimate my plants to the new conditions. Also, being new to this type of light I wondered about led induced deficiencies. I do thamk you !!

Because of the heat?
Definitely not heat. My space has been a lot cooler since moving from MH/HPs to my QBs. I typically have to worry about it getting cooler than i want actually. I'm not certain why it is, but many LED users have reported needing more calmag. Could be a spectrum thing if i was going to take a guess.

my plants are in veg, im a noob on my first grow. currently hlg 260 is at 25% of power and hanging 33” from tallest plant.

i tend to notice the margins of the leaves start to turn up and look like they are turning white when i had the lights closer and/or turned up higher. i use a 1 tsp calmag+ with every feeding with or without nutes

oh yeah my board is 3000k, i used a 75 watt 5k cob cree for seedling and then put the quantum board in and was running both lights at the same time. i think the plants were getting stressed when both lights were in so now just running the 3000k alone. i dont see any problem just starting with the HLG, just put it up to 40-50” high and turned down as low as possible for the seed stage

am i just being overly worried when my leaf margins start turning up? are my plants just not taking the led well? or should i just put it at 24” and see what happens during veg?

Thanks buddy. I still don't even have mine yet. I called them on Saturday and it will be shipped on Monday so they say. I can't wait!
I use the HLG XL320,

18 inches at 260 watts during flower, 24 during veg.

Want to keep QBs between 30-35 watts per sq ft as a general rule of thumb
Thank you!!

I have the HLG 260 V2 and have noticed the same with the cal-mag. As far as distance, you really can't go wrong after they've been under it for a week or so. Lower intensity will grow slower, but less stress on the plant if you are in no hurry. Same with height. I like to keep the intensity at 100%, then adjust height.

Grew 2 Superskunk in 5 gallon pot and it was CROWDED in a 3x3 closet.

next grow was 2 GDP in 3 gallon pots, it still got crowded, but was manageable. this is after harvesting one, a good view of my "V8 manifold"

I got 6oz cured from the 2 5gal pots, and 4oz total in the 2 3gallon pots.

I've got 2 grows under my belt with it and the thing I'm trying this time is actually raising the lights or reducing the intensity once I flip to 12/12. all 4 plants matured really fast - first pistils in about a week after flip, only about 14 days from the 1st brown pistil to harvest. 40-50 days in flowering on average. I think 'slowing it down" some in flower might let them put on more weight before they get done.

Have another Superskunk going now, and 3 monster-crop clones I took from the GDP above.

I loved the HLG 260 so much I got a 135 for a small veg-tent. It grows slow, but is great for starting seedlings and clones, and keeping a rotation going.

Thank you for chiming in and for the info. My first grow with this light, I am on week 7 flower right now and could not be happier. I am about 18" from canopy, after about 2 weeks I cranked her up to 100% as well and am starting to see some bleaching and burning. I am hoping to be dialed in better for next grow but not much error to correct so far. Thanks H.A.F.!

I’m currently at 210 watts with my XL320 but only because I’m at 14” they grew so damn fast ran out of room to adjust the lights

EDIT: if you go to HLGs site, they state 2 320s would be perfect for a 5x5. 2 320s at max would be 660 watts. That over 25 sq ft gives you 26 watts per sq ft. And that’s coming from the manufacturer. I assume however this is at 18” height.

Superskunk is a top dank ass strain from Sensi.

The health of your plants will detetmin light distance a lot, you can set closer for pure heqlthy plants but strugglers grow better in less light.
