history, a must read but never make the NYT

after several months of reading this site, i have come to the conclusion that a vast amount of americans have no sense of history.

i beg everyone to study the rise of oppresive govnt. throughout history. the things that are happening in the USA are very much in step with fascist/marxist/socialist, what ever you want to call it.

please, all my stoner friends educate yourselves on recent history and look at what we are doing here. please dont fall for this plan to take the US socialist. this country literally holds up the world. we save lives in sunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, and any humanitarian tradedy in any corner of the world. we give more money than all other countrys combined. we do it because of free market capitalism=WE HAVE THE MONEY. if they take capitalism away, we will no longer have the ability to respond to world tragedy saving thousands of lives. its free market capitalism that allows us to do these things other countries could have the money but they dont because they arent free.

we are the only country on the planet where people risk there lives to get in. lets try to keep it this way by remembering what got us here. think about the things that make this country so sought after. and lets try to keep them and not go the way of europe.

The facts are that Europe cannot even pay for its own defense. If the USA umbrella was removed, the EU would quickly start to deteriorate.

The farther away from capitalism a society gets, the worse it performs..... the pattern is well documented.

LOL those 2 wars you won single handed while fighting in them from the very begining right? and you joined those wars for chump change? nothing mentioned about the trade agreements you got just after the second world war (gave america the opportunity to be the great country you are now) or the massive debt that the uk only just finished paying back a few years now. no you did it all out of the kindness of your hearts.
and then theres the wars that we are fighting with you at the moment because of bad American foreign policies in the past (training up terrorist groups to fight communism sound familiar? sending cruise missile attacks at countries blowing up milk factories sound familiar)

i didnt mention anything about winning wars single handed.
and i believe the trade agreements you mentioned are the same trade agreements that have benefited both sides of the atlantic, provided the high european standard of living someone has aforementioned;, and financed the rebuilding of war devastated europe, and kept relative peace in europe for 64 years.

we paid off our national deficet in the mid 90's just like you did. your uninformed. bush jr did a great job of fucking that all to hell... no ones perfect. personally i think the man was an idiot, and i didnt vote for him, so dont put his policies in my mouth.

and as far as wars being fought from bad foriegn policy....lol cmon. how many european wars started from bad foriegn policy... all of em!

december 2006 was last payment by the british government it wasnt the nineties. the trade agreements were not so favourable on this side of the water either.
while you might not be looking down your nose per se you are of the mind that we owe you something and your also of the mind that we are fully dependent on your protection.
neither of the above is true we dont owe you anything yet we're still standing by your side in 2 bad wars. we dont need your protection (if anything we'd be safer if we had nothing to do with your wars)

lol np. the tea party is too far back for me to comment on. the IRA however yeah that was definately a problem for quite along time. one of the things that really didnt help was the funding they got from americans (imagine that another terrorist group getting funding from america)
but what happened to stop the fighting? oh yeah we sat down and we talked to them. thats what stopped it all. its a lesson thats been fogoten all too quickly i think.

I love this! Though, according to your chart it WAS pretty close to being paid off under Clinton (closer than any other time in history, anyway). Also, this chart represents the national DEBT, which is different than the deficit. Clinton did turn the deficit into a surplus, but no, he didn't eliminate the national debt.

To the OP: You are trying to give us a history lesson, but your comment about facism/marxism/socialism presumes them to be the same thing? They are not!

History.... a lovely subject.

Europe hobbles into the 20th century on old and corrupted monarch legs. The crutches are knocked away by the monarchs in WW1, killing millions. Then the remaining monarchs punish Germany so severely that it guarantees a rematch if Germany is allowed tio rebuild.
Lo and behold, Germany is allowed (by pretending it isn't happening) to rebuild and hundreds of millions now die in WW2.

Europe has been a breeding ground for most of the violence of the 20th century. Europe has been bombed out, both physically and spiritually for a long time now. It is no surprise that Europeans are naturally drawn to strong government control. Where has it gotten you though?

The USA govt. is adopting the same mind set. This will be a very different scenario Europe is used to. I wonder if they can survive it? It might be interesting to note that the Europe will finally disappear by a methodology of their own creation
