High humidity !!! Help !!

hello my humidity is about 50 at it's LOWEST can you guys give me a couple of ways to get my humidity down on the cheap side for my first grow.... after i will go out a and buy a good dehumidifier thanks !!1
 
A picture of your grow area will help and give us an idea of room you have. What kind of light are u using
 
50% humidity is just about perfect for growing, through all stages. keep it no lower than 45% and no higher than 75% and your pot will grow fat and sassy.

humidity numbers over 75% result in mould, mildew and the dreaded bud-rot. Fungus loves humidity approaching 100%

some bugs (spidermites particularly) love humidity below 40% and breed like a bad case of crabs in a warm dry environment. if your humidty gets too low, even without bugs, your plants will be vulnerable to dessication, and youll have to water a lot more.

200 watts of real power or the 200 watt incandescent equivalent? youre probably using a light that is lying to you. incandescent equivalent numbers are bullshit. unless the light says clearly, 200 watts power consumption, youre using around 50 watts of real power, which means your light is only about the same as a 40 watt metal halide bulb. youll not find anyone growing plants under a light like that because it doesnt work. im using flourescents in my vegetative grow room now, at an actual power consumption of around 200 real watts, and this illuminates my 40 inch by 40 inch veg shed adequately, but not effectively. (we dont come here learn how to grow adequate dope) Ideally i would like to up my lighting by another 50 or so real watts to keep my plants growing well.

your light, with only 45-50 actual watts will only result in a thin stretchy and sickly plant. get more lights bro, lots more lights. a 150 - 200 watt metal halide would be perfect for my growroom, but po-folks cant just up an buy lights and shit like that.

regarding your humidity levels, if 50% humidity is your low, whats your high? if your highest humidity runs 75% or less, just try to stabilize it in the middle range, like perhaps a constant 60%. if your humidity is swinging over 75%, you got a problem that needs solving before your plants start damping off or moulding over
 
Hello, it is a 200 watt cfl NOT a 200 watt equivalent thanks for the advice and i prob. will not continue to use this in future grows i'm looking into DIY LED and that type of cheaper but quality lighting !!

sorry forgot to add this withthe other post the high for the humidity is about 65-70 and also there is white powder on my leaves so thats why the humidity was concerning me ....

a 200 wat cfl is a good choice for veg, more for flowering is always better though.

50% to 70% humidity is a pretty wide swing, stabilizing that with better ventilation would be best. Damp-Rid is ok, but silica gel also works (see your local gun shop) and can be re-used if you dry it in the oven when it's full.

the white powder concerns me. do you use any foliage sprays?

is your room particularly dusty, or is there drywall work going on in your house?

does the powder wash off and not come back?

does it come back in a few hours or days?

all your plants or just one or two?

is there similar powder on your intake vents?
 
i use a spray to try to get rid of it (hydrogen paroxide and water) and i did sand and paint the room recently but they were not in the room and they had the powder was there before they are currently outside i tried putting some charcoal brickettes in there because i was reading a forum that said that was a cheap way to get the humidity down. and yes the powder does wash off with the spray and does come back in max of 3 days also i have 2 plants. and i do not think there is similar powder on my charcoal filter .... forgot to say what strain that i was growing ( OG KUSH ) does this plant have a touchy humidity threshold ??? thanks all the comments are very helpful !!! also would you guys say that a 4 inch duct fan would be adoquite for a 256 cf grow area thanks !!

i got 2 scary fucked up words bro, Powdery Mildew! you may be fucked. but if you sanded drywall you might just have loose gypsum powder on the leaves.

take a soft clean cloth, and dampen it with water. clean your leaves surfaces thoroughly (but gently) on both sides. if in 2-3 days the white powdery substance doesnt come back, then it was just lingering gypsum dust.

also use a dark colored (preferably a black t-shirt or some such) and wipe down your intake vents. if white powder is inside your intake vent, its probably just more gypsum dust (clean that shit out) but if your intake is clean, check your exhaust vents.
if the white powder comes back on your leaves, youre probably fucked.

if you have white powdery shit in the exhaust youre probably fucked even harder.

powdery mildew is lethal (to plants), persistent and hard to get rid of. youll have to clean every square inch of your grow room, and possibly the rest of your house too, with bleach or ammonia to kill it (just dont use both) pray its not powdery mildew.

if this is what youre seeing, your boned. time to start sterilizing your grow room for next time around try adding a UV light some sources say that helps deter this shit.
 
Poor mans method...bucket of rice in the garden. It will absorb alot of moisture, Just make sure to mix it up once in awhile so it don't mold. I dropped mine by 20% during lights out with a 5 gallon bucket full.

im no expert on cannabis growing, for most plants i deal with powdery mildew is only an annoyance, but in cannabis i hear it's deadly might wanna ask around the more experienced pot growers.

check around using the search panel and whatnot. theres lotsa info here about this stuff.
