High CBD Ethanol Tincture

For any of you that are interested here is the process that the one dude (Nate??) from the show Weed Country used to make the high cbd tincture for the child with seizures.


[h=5]The Organic Ethanol Method - making a "whole plant" CBD tincture using organic ethanol.

I used Halent Laboratories to test this system at every stage. Halent has allowed me to "fine tune" this system using there state of the art analyses methods. please visit www.Halent.com or call (530) 219-4366. Halent offers a test that is in depth and credible. They test for molds and 30 pesticides, 15 cannabinoids, and 8 terpenoids.

Equipment list: Heated stir plate with magnet, Vapor hood, 800 ml glass beaker with lid, Organic ethanol, sealable vessels.

Step 1 Have your whole flower tested in order to make sure it is safe and high in CBD. Once your sure you have the right plant material, grind the flowers into a fine powder using a CLEAN coffee grinder. If the plant material is not fully dry, allow it to stay at room temperature uncovered in a low humidity environment until it is fully dry.

Step 2 Decarboxylate the plant material by wrapping it tightly in tin foil. Keep the plant material at a uniform 1 inch thickness. Put in the oven
@ 310f for 30 minutes. then remove from the oven and place in the freezer for 10 minutes to cool. Under ideal conditions CBDA will convert to CBD at a rate of 65%. Decarboxylating medical cannabis makes it psychoactive.

Step 3 Weigh the plant material before putting it in a beaker with 10 ml of ethanol for every gram of plant matter. Add a stir magnet and put on a stir plate unheated for 12 hours (6 may be enough). Make sure you cover the beaker, and leave it under a fume hood. Do not allow open flame anywhere near ethanol.

Step 4 Strain the plant matter using vacuum filtration.

Step 5 Pore the strained tincture into a clean glass beaker. leaving the lid off, boil away the ethanol until you have a pure oil. Again, leave under a fume hood at all times to avoid risk of explosion.

Step 6 Once you have boiled away the ethanol, you will have a thick oil. Transfer this oil into a sealed container and bring this oil to Halent (if possible) to be tested, weighed, and diluted in a small amount of organic ethanol to maintain stable dosing.

Here are three cost saving tricks:

1. You can substitute an oven hood for a fume hood.

2. You can substitute a coffee filter and a funnel for a vacuum filter.

3. You can use non organic ethanol during step 3. As long as you boil it away. use a small amount of organic ethanol for step 6 because that is going to be ingested. EXTREME CAUTION- alway make sure the ethanol is not Denatured. Denatured Ethanol is poison (containing methanol and isopropyl alcohol).[/h]

Instead of diluting the thick oil in ethanol for step 6, maybe it would be possible to dilute it into vegetable glycerin for less harsh alcohol flavor.

If you don't want to activate the thc, and not make it psychoactive, should you maybe skip the Decarboxylating step 2 ??

My understanding that not decarboxylating will simply remove the head buzz potential, but the healing properties remain. I've read about glycerin tincture not being decarbed specifically to heal without the buzz.

Stowe- that's a really great, detailed tutorial. Very specific which is key if you're trying to reproduce the process. I'd be interested in connecting a condensing column to capture the evaporating ethanol. The Everclear (I assume that's "Organic Ethanol") isn't cheap and the lab equipment to condense and collect is cheap.

Yes, I would say that's fine. The food grade ethanol in step six is simply for consistency.

You are correct Rrog. We have a patient using vegetable glycerin CBD tincture where we do not decarb the plant material and the results for him have been nothing short of spectacular. Before taking the tincture he had daily seizures. Now he goes weeks without having one, and they are very mild at that.

I knew the guy put his recipe out there but I never gave it a full once over. I make a ethanol tincture in a very similar fashion but I do not reduce it down to only the oil. I boil off the alc to the point where it no longer burns when administered under the tongue. One of my patients likes to use this instead of anything else but only in like small doses to control her medical condition. So Id be interested to make a even more concentrated version with some high cbd strains that will be coming my way.

So the "high CBD count" you mention is coming from the strain and not the procedure? Nice read though. Sounds very similar to green dragon recipe.

Well the CBD has to come from somewhere. Ive also seen walkthroughs on how to boil off thc leaving the CBDs intact (due to a difference in resistance to heat between the two compounds).

Really interesting thread. So if one were to look at all of this with just an eye toward a buzz a decarbed Ethanol tincture might hit slow, but would be a reasonable discrete delivery system.

Very interesting, need more post like this, I'm in this for experimental purposes and medical, not high THC levels which if unregulated gives a trippy hippie,fried,staring out into space,unmotivated couch potato, sleepy as hell, even though you just woke up from a 12 hour nap or a paralyzing tingling numbed out body affect. I don't call this a buzz,I call it granny and jethro's barnyard corn still crossbreeding already crossbreded crossbreded strains. just to get 2% higher THC level, they will claim it took them 10 years research more resources, scientists, and money than the manhattan, project to get that 2% more,and the said part is, there probably telling the truth, what a waste of time and money and resources trying to cater to the potheads living with mama, every barnyard corn still crossbreeder is calling there coffee shop, broom closet a genetic high tech science lab, there has been already over 3 million flavors, strengths,effects created for the common smoker and pothead and most have already been discarded, discontinued or nothing but a few seeds stored away somewhere, know telling how many of these crossbreeding creations that were done years ago, but never recoreded, I remember in the 80s looking threw high times, headshop magazines and seeing some of the same shitt there creating today, just take away autoflower. Is there any cbd stains in northern lp? I went to a convention some guys had cannatonic I think. no seeds no clones with them either all they had were pictures and some info. they said they would deliver them to me wand wanted to sell me 12 but I only want one.

smoked,ingested, injected, snorted, bathevd in,THC to blood transfusion, 24 hour 7 days a week consume 200 pounds an hour THC diet. If I were to tell you what I did in my younger years, you would call me a liar then I would thank you and pray you and others are right. If I were to replace pothead and hippy with consumer it wouldn't take away from the seriousness of the post and waste and unnecessary breeding wasting, resources,time and money to make the samething that every 10 or so years is brought back, plus every tom dick and harry can do the samething, just like me with over 50 strains trying to create the effects I want. posting I'm a old pothead hippie from way back myself would take away the seriousness of the matter, I smoked 100 pounds a day for 25 years straight, then quitt cold turkey for 10 years I myself didn't think I had the will power, but after two weeks the urge went away, leased and ran two bars, drinking a half gallon of JD everynight bearly and sometimes not at all catching a buzz, drove 20 miles back and forth even had a in house taxi or transport service to take people home that was to drunk, 50% of the time I was the one taking them home after I drank some nights over a half gallon, It was like more I drank sober I got, even though I was informed I was a serious alcoholic, when I was a teenager and into my 20s a couple of JDs and coke few beers and I was shitt faced, any more than that, you found me in the ditch the next moring beside the bar never made it to my car after leaving the bar, and know I'm drinking over half gallon,jagermeister shots mind eraser long island iced teas and more all night long, even other stuff if you know what mean, one of my regulars was a retierd statetrooper, he got one of his buddies to can by and give me test, breathalyzer showed 3.4 the first stage of alcohol poisoning, I felled the breathalyzer test, but passed everything eles with flying colors, walked a peace of sewing thread tied to two stunt planes flying loops under bridges, said my abc's starting with g stopping with w then backwards to c and upside down to z,had to run one more test he said, so I ran backwards blindfolded up a 10 lane overpass with three full cups of boiling coffee, during rush hour, with out getting run over and spilling a drop, he said he's never seen any body pass it that good sober durning the day with there eyes open. so I went back in drank two mind earaser with a girl, then did payroll, updated customer accounts, reordered inventory, counted out poker machines, jukebox, pool tables, video machines, and closed out the cash register at 3.30am took 4 people home, and they said I was on the verge of killing myself, so I desided since I'm not going to catch a buzz no matter how much I drink, ill just quitt and save myself $60 a night just in JD alone, quitt cold turkey that day and haven't touched a drop in 15 years.
