I'm having problems with going from Taproot to soil when I put the seed in soil it starts to grow but for some reason the stem dries up I try watering every two to three days with pH water 6.5 with a needle dropper after I plant the seed in soil should I keep it in the dark for 2-3 days or should I put Saran wrap on top of it any help will be greatly appreciated thank you in advance PSI germinated in a shot glass of distilled pH 6.5 water I've tried the paper towel method but it never works for me

Getting seeds to germinate can be tricky. Of course it depends on the seed. Some seed husks are very tough and I've heard and tried a method to get them to sprout....but you need to be careful using this method. Do you know what an emery board is? Its like a cardboard fingernail file you can buy for a buck. Before you try to germinate your seeds, take them and very gently scuff the outside of the seed hull. This allows water to penetrate quicker and start the sprouting process. Whatever you do, don't file INTO or PAST the hull. You just want to make some very fine scratches. You don't always have to do this by the way, but if you have seeds that are sitting using the paper towel method, and nothing is happening, try this. It works for me every time.

As far as planting the seed, I'm curious to know what soil you are using? Try not using soil that has ANY type of fertilizer or added nutrients. You want good, plain, dark soil without anything in it. Get you some of those disposable plastic cups, use a tiny screwdriver, heat it and carefully melt 4-5 tiny holes in the bottom. Fill it with soil. When you see a taproot from one of your seeds, use your pinky finger, and down to the FIRST bend of your pinky finger, put a hole in the soil. Very gently cover the root with soil and use something small to water the cup until water comes out of the bottom. Not sure where you heard about putting them in the dark, but I don't do this. I just put them somewhere with normal light. I do not water them again because drowning your seeds is the most likely problem you are having. You should see your plant start to sprout within 1 week. You can use a little more water during this time, but don't over-water your sprouts...you will kill them for sure. Don't Saran Wrap your seeds or sprouts, cups...or whatever...I've never done this and think it can be detrimental by depriving the soil and seed/sprout of oxygen. Mother Nature doesn't use Saran Wrap...you shouldn't have to either.

I'm not a pro, but I am learning from the guys here. I am sure someone will come along and probably add something. Give this a go and let me know what happens.

When you plant them in the soil, make sure you are covering them completely with fine soil and don't smash down the dirt. Water them and leave them and they will push through. Good luck man.

Does it matter which side of the seed that I use Emory board on?

Might be your soil is a little hot for seedlings. I bought a small bag of scotts seedling starter mix and it worked awesome. I was starting in promix but seedlings were getting burnt.

after they outgrow the solo cup, they should be ready for your organic soil, no problem. although i normally put a small layer of seedling mix again in the transplant hole the roots are going to first come in contact with. i even used water to take the seedlings out of the promix with their roots intact. even though they were clearly dying, i was able to save most once in the seedling mix.
