should i take the entire plant out of the soil with roots and everything including the fan leaves and hang them? Also for how long do i hang them for and how?

Cut plant at soil. Trim fan leaves off (easier now than later), Hang in a dark cool area for 2-3 days. You can season after that by using a mason jar. Put buds in jar and daily open it up to allow fresh air in 3-4 days. You can tweak that in any fashion you like by a day or two.

It will depend on the relative humidity where you are drying them. hang them up inside. You can ''feel'' when they begin to dry out. Before they are bone dry, put them in some mason jars and stir around once a day maybe twice.
