Who remembers where they were and what they were doing when JFK was shot? I vividly remember being out playing in the barn when mom ran out of the house screaming for my father. Only time I ever saw my Grandpa shed a tear. Later that evening going to the local diner to watch their TV. We didnt have one yet. IMO a big turning point in American history......
I was in second phase basic training and the DI told us he was shot. He also said that some of us might be asked to make the "supreme sacrifice" in the coming months. Fuck me thought I.

I was two. My moment with history is when i was driving all day to get back to grad school, stopped in a mall for a change of fluids, and found the place empty, because everybody was in the Macy's watching the wall o'TVs, on which Challenger turned into a lobster claw over and over again. cn

I remember that one well, I was on a 210' (CG) Needle of death approx 25 miles east of the coast
("Down range") of the Cape.
We had an excellent view of the rising plume.

*Cut to the Joke* What was the last thing Christa McAuliffe said?

"Hey, what does this red button do"?

I was at The Joe Brinkmans umpire school in Cocoa Florida looking up directly overhead as it blew up. It was 29 degrees in Florida that morning and as it turned out the cold weather caused the O ring failure. Most of the guys at school were from other areas of the country or world and didn't realize there was an issue. Having seen all the shuttle shots to that time, the anomaly was apparent. Recent new unearthed video of the tragedy that came to light brought me to tears. Easily one of the darkest days for me. I can still see the blast cloud that hung for most of the day in my minds eye.
