I am a first time grower myself so take my advice with a grain of salt.
I have noticed with my own plants that the branches that I used a supercropping technique on have grown with more vigor than those branches on the same plant that have not had the proceedure applied to have.
I'm at or near the same latitude as you and my plants (started from seed in May) have already sexed and have been growing alternating nodes for a few weeks now. It is my understanding that topping / FIMing will not produce new shoots for the plant once the symetrical growth has ceased.
My advice is feed your girls and be patient...
Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I can post a good piece of advice that I have not seen discussed much and that is - mulch ... I scatter a few bales of alfalfa hay down where I want to plant next year and by Spring the ground underneath is wonderful, rich and full of earthworms. It's called the Ruth Stout No-Till System after the eccentric organic gardener who championed it. Since I've started using it, everything is going much, much better and I am not battling weeds or tilling or much digging. I haven't seen it discussed in the context of cannabis, but it is ideal for that.

My only advice is to give the roots more soil than you think. Unless you already did that. If that's the case lets see some pics. Odds are they're beauts. It ain't hard outdoors.

Nice tip. I was thinking of growing clovers in my raised bed and turn it over in January. To google I go! Maybe I'll grow alfalfa if it's a winter crop.

Yes, every year my plants get further and further apart - just lots and lots of mulch in between
This year I shot for 4' on center (12 sqft per plant) and it was still too close. Next year, I'm shooting for 5'.

here is a tip, don't LST your plants this late into its life with woody stems, you snap your main stalk and then lose your biggest top cola. Especially when your growing a strain that is a main stem dominant kind of plant.

True. Midday is of course the worst time of day to water but I will water then if I see a plant is suffering (potted or not). Believe me, it will be appreciated, especially if the water is on the cool side (not cold).
