....how bad is my algae infection?

Should i be in panic mode?
One pic was taken before i drained the res. See the clingers on the wires?

One the res was drained i dumped some h202 in there and let it work for a bit. Then i started filling and took the second pic.

So how bad is my infection? Should i be in panic mode? I just dont have time to clean the res tonight... and anyway that shit must be in the tables too by now... although the roots look okay... for now... so even if i clean the res it will get infected again. So... guess i just have to battle this till the end?

Well shit this sucks man. I was just wondering today how things were going for you in the new system.

I personally have only had a couple fights with algae, slime or whatever bullshit decided to take up in my res. h2o2 gave me mixed results that's when I switched to using pool shock to run a sterile res and I've never looked back or had an issue again.

Personally I would empty the res, and flush some clean water down through the pots to try to clean them out as well as possible. If you wanted to use a h2o2/water solution for this it couldn't hurt to help kill anything. Then I would clean the res and tray and refill I all with fresh clean solution and add h2o2 everyday or get pool shock and make a solution to add every 3-4 days.

Fighting stuff sucks, which is a big part of why I run sterile. I can't remember what nutrient system your using. Some guys use bennies in the res to deal with this stuff. I've never gone that route so I don't have much to say about them.

I was trying to run sterile...lol

I would do as you say, but the problem is that if i fill the res with plain RO and h202 then i have to wait 18 hours for my RO unit to process another res full. Maybe its worth it. I dunno... i wonder if the lack of nutes for that long would cause a stall in growth that would be just as bad as the slower growth that running with the algae would cause???

I mean, im 22 days since flip and the budlets are right about where they should be for that amount of time. And the plants look not bad considering how rough their start was.

So i guess thats why i am here. Do i bite the bullet and do a cleaning/flush... or just keep mananging the the problem for the next 5ish weeks? Those with experience would know?

But... i started with PM and i think that led to this. My longest time between res changes was 11 days.

Don't use RO for the flush....Just use tap water and you don't need to flush them for 18 hours. Pouring solution down through the medium will help push anything bad down. Then just flush them with the h2o2 solution and tap water for a couple hours. Then honestly flushing from the top one more time wouldn't hurt, to push everything down and out again.

Then clean the tray and res and refill with proper nutrients and more h2o2 or shock.

Also dude, the plants look great! They seem nice and happy, good color and strong looking stems.

Oh. I see... lol
Flush down through the top to push shit out with tap water
Drain res, clean it and fill with tap and h202 and flush for a couple hours. Then drain, prolly clean again and refil with ro + nute solution.

Should i worry about ph during flush with tap water?

Make a day of it... lol

Yeah make a day of it sadly. Or at least part of one.

If you just run tap through from a hose into the top I wouldn't worry about phing it, you could even do that as you refill the first time for the flush. If you refill the res and then pump it through the top with a hose, I'd say go ahead and ph it cus it won't hurt. Either way as long as the ph is correct when you refill in the end you should really be fine.

Great idea that i never wouldve thought of... pumping up from the res down through the top. Thanks!

Hope the first aid helps, but what's creating the condition in the first place? Algae is a plant, correct? That means it needs light to photosynthesize so there has to be a source someplace. Fix that and problem should go away.

I have a cover on the tables and the net pots are set into holes cut it just to fit. Plus canopy cover. The res has a spot open where the cords come out but it is under the table.... so dunno...

Been batling with algae for 3 times, first time totally ruined my grow, tried to save plants using pharmacy stuff 3% h2o2 at 3ml per litre without ANY positive effect. Second time I got it I moved plants to coir and got 1.2gpw, plants for absolutely happy with the move... And now is the third time I am battling with it, best thing that I found yet is 30% h2o2 solution teaspoon per gallon, algae was gone in minutes, I meen literally minutes!!! Plants look happy, I am happy :)

Nah man don't panic. Your plants look great to me. I see green and no yellow and not even a burned tip. H2O2 will bubble on a lot, but don't let that lead you to believe you got some shit.

I honestly never saw "algae" in your picture, but it defintiely looked like something scuzzy growing so I assumed you were just calling it "algae", but that it was some sort of slime. Thankfully either way it doesn't look real bad I think it will clean up well.
