Here is a little info (N-P-K %) on some different nutes/fertilizers. Which one is the best, what do you use, is there that big of a difference? Too many questions, not enough time. im a beginner grower and i actually just finished making my grow box, im planning to start germinating my seeds as soon as i get my pots and nutrients, idk anything about nutrients like literally, i only want to buy MG since i can buy it at homedepot, i dont wanna pay shipping and i dont wanna buy from like hydroponics online stores etc. i just want something basic, grow for myself and stop buying you know. so with all those MG nutes you listed above, which one do you think i should use? for veg and for flowering, how do i use them? how often? any replies to this post would be more than appreciated. advance thank you to all.

edit: and if someone could also tell me what soil i should use that i can buy from homedepot. thank you in advance.

Not sure what kind of soil homedepot carries where you live. I'm thinking they stock MG, Scotts, maybe StaGreen. MG is a decent soil to start with, it's cheap, just buy some Perlite to mix in it because it gets really dense when you water and the roots will have a hard time growing. Perlite is those little white foam balls that you find in potting soil. The mixing ratio that would be o.k. to start with is for every 1 gallon of soil use 1/4 to 1/3 gallon of perlite, you could even probably bump that number up to 1/2 gallon of perlite to every gallon of soil.

As for MG nutrients, go with either the All Purpose 24-8-16, or the Nursery Select (if you can find it) 20-20-20, they wouldn't be too bad to use. Just don't give them the full strength of it. If it says to mix 1 tablespoon per one gallon of water try mixing 1/4 tablespoon to one gallon of water. Also, with the soil, try finding soil that doesn't have slow release fertilizer in it. You can burn your small plants/seedlings that way. During the Veg stage a plant uses a good amount of Nitrogen and Phosphorus?, it's the N & P in the NPK ratio. When you see numbers on a bag that says 20-20-20 or 24-8-16 that is 24=N, 8=P, K=16. Do you know what I'm saying. During the Flowering stage, you would want a higher K number. I could be mistaken though lol, but I'm pretty sure that is how the plants use the NPK during each phase.

When it comes to using fertilizers wait until the plant is atleast 6 inches tall, thats my opinion, cause if the plant is too small fertilizer can burn the leaves. As for how to use them, it depends on the fertilizer, it will have directions on the back. I think the All Purpose says to mix 1 tablespoon of the blue powder mix into a gallon of water. Then once you do that all you have to do is water your plants with the blue water, but don't do it all the time, use the fertilizer mix one day, then the next two waterings use straight water.

excellent, thank you noxiously for the information+ rep. i think im gonna go with either MG or scotts for the soil. ill just pick one off the shelf at homedepot. as for the nutes, do you think this would be good for the vegetative stage - http://www.homedepot.com/Outdoors-Garden-Center-Fertilizers/h_d1/N-5yc1vZaqlb/R-100077406/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 - cause i read in one of the post that 20-20-20 is ok for the vegetative phrase. as for the flowering stage idk which MG nute i should buy on that list. i was thinking of just using the same nutes i will use for vegetative. this is the link to my homedepot store - http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?keyword=Miracle+Grow+Nursery+Select+All+Purpose&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 - thats the list of nutes they got, so if you can tell me which one i should use for flowering stage or even maybe vegetative stage cause i may be wrong. my brother used to work at homedepot and they sent him to school to be like a botanical expert for a year. and he said tomatoes are like marijuana plants, so thats why i choose the first link to be my nutes for my vegetative stage. thank you in advance.

There are more jack's classic nutes but these are the good ones for Cannabis.
use all purpose for veg and blossom booster for flowering.

hey super moto, what if the only nutes you can get is MG, which one would you use for veg and which one for flower? besides the all purpose 20-20-20 cause the homedepot over doesnt have that kind. thanks in advance.

From my understanding, during the flowering stage you want the first two numbers to be high/higher. For the flowering stage you want the third/last number to be high/higher. I'm gonna do a quick search for you just to make sure I'm correct, lol. Well, from what I read, I was right. You want a the N and P to be higher during veg, and the K to be higher during flowering. I have also heard that marijuana plants are just like tomato plants, so maybe there is some truth to this saying, and if that is the case then tomato fertilizer should be good to use I guess.

thank you for the reply but a more accurate answer to my post would be appreciated.
Do you have any hydro or nursery stores near by? It may be worth the trip to run over to one of them to get a more accurate fertilizer for veg and flowering. If home depot is the only place you have to choose from, then I would go with the MG all purpose for the veg stage, the water soluble one. The NPK on that is 24-8-16, it has high enough nitrogen for the flowering stage, and an o.k. amount of potassium (K) for the flowering stage. That tomato plant food by MG you posted a link to is a good choice for flowering, it is rated 18-18-21. If you are still unsure of which MG fertilizer you should use, just check through the list they have online and check the descriptions for the NPK rating and what ever one has the highest number at the beginning is good for veg, and the highest number at the end is good for flowering. I also hear that the middle number should be high too for flowering, so you can check for that as well, in conjunction with a high K rating. But, to make things even easier, look for one that is water soluble, not the slow release pellets, and see if they have one that is 20-20-20 and that will cover you for both phases.

If you want something that is just Nitrogen specific, look for some Blood Meal. I'm pretty sure home depot has it, most places like that do. Blood meal is good for flowering, it is rated 12-0-0.

excellent, this clarifies it much better. and there is no nurserys here closest is canada which is like 4-5 hours away, i do have a passport so i can go to there, but i dont feel like goin by myself and my buddies dont have no passports. there might be one place were they might have nutrients, ill check the store tonight, cause they sell bongs and what not, and they were selling tents and hydroponics systems last time i stopped by, but its mainly a insense and bong and adult store. hahaha. i just checked my homedepot store online and they do have the blood meal. the all purpose 20-20-20 is not available at my store. so ill buy the MG all purpose 24-8-16 for veg then the tomato nute for flowering i guess. or should i use blood meal instead for flower? and noxiously i really appreciate the help man, saved me alot of time, cause ive been goin thru all these threads but ended getting high and then stop reading. haha. any other replies would be appreciated. :)

Yea 4 to 5 hour drive is too far in my opinion too. You could use the blood meal for veg, it's high in Nitrogen and that is what they use the most of during the vegetative stage. The thing though about other fertilizers is that they have other nutrients that the plant needs (micro/macro nutrients) that I'm not sure the blood meal has in it. I would probably just stick with the 24-8-16 for veg and the tomato for flower, it will do just fine.

just got back a lil bit ago, i bought most of the stuff i need to start growing. i got the 24-8-16 one and the tomato, i stopped by at the bong shop and they still have hydroponics systems but no nutrients, they have a list of like nutes to grow weed im pretty sure, but the shop owner wasnt there. the lady that was workin said to ask the the shop owner if he can get it, and he wont be in til next week, and i dont plan on waiting that long cause if he can, he prolly hafta wait a week or two before he gets them. im gonna start a thread on indoor growing, i would really appreciate it if you can take a look at it. :)

Yea I hate having to wait on products to get to a store. If I have to wait for more than a couple days I just go on ebay and buy it, hell it usually gets here faster than waiting for a store manager to get something in stock, plus it's cheaper lol. Yea, whenever you get your journal up and going I would definitely take a look at it. I'm always interesting in checking out other peoples grows and see how they have it set up and how they have it running.
