But I'll hit you up for sure tho. Gonna be a 10 plant run and they'll veg under the 400w T5VHO and finish under 600w HPS this time.

And it sucks to not be able to talk about this out in the open with ppl for sure, but RIU makes it possible to keep your mouth shut and still share with ppl in the same boat, with as much to lose ya know?!

And being busy is a good thing boss. Theres always work to be done! So do work son! :joint:

Sweet, I'm in.

RIU saved me from blabbing to non farmers, I had just started my grow and was itching to talk about it.

Joined RIU, problem solved.

So towards the end of week 10 (75 days) the ladies were ready, more than ready.

I had taken them to the point where they were clearly ready, then given them even more time. The plants signaled their state of readiness visually. The plants look like a plant in the Autumn of it’s life. The female cannabis plant grows buds which then becomes resinous (sticky) in order to catch and trap pollen.

The pollen fertilizes the bud and the bud grows seeds which then scatter in the winds and grows a new plant and the cycle continues.

The plant wants to produce and give up its gift before the cold weather hits. When the plants have buds bubbling with swollen calyxes with dried balled up pistils sprouting out with Amber streaks, all the large fan leaves are long gone, the plant looks bare (due to lost leaves) the bulk of the remaining leaves are yellowed, Growth has slowed to pretty much a stand still, you check the trichomes with a magnifier and you see the majority of them are Milky (cloudy) a lesser percentage are clear and you have a few Amber, the bud is mature and ready to harvest.

Oh and the bud will be coated in trichomes making it appear as if the bud has been dipped in sugar.

THC is actually developed and stored in these trichomes so need to be handled with care to keep optimal potency.

So for drying I selected a good sized box, whittled some wood to use as hangers and hey presto, that’s how I made my drying room, low cost, low tech and made with 100% recyclable products (keeping it green).

I selected the plant that had ceased to grow over the last week, got my pruners, clippers and three paper bags, 1 for large leafs (no visible trichomes) 1 for larger/longer bud leaf and 1 for the smaller bud leaf (covered in trichomes).

Once all these things were in place, I got to clipping.

Thanks Since, your little pep talk about letting them go deep helped.

So then I committed to that and took them pretty much as deep as they could go (no new growth).

Take them as deep as they will go.

And a very interesting thing to note for all soon to be Urban Farmers is the trichomes change very slowly.

They are in each window for a long time. So they are clear for weeks, then the transition from clear to cloudy takes weeks, then they are cloudy for weeks.

So as a first time farmer that's something which surprised me, because reading the books I had the impression that they would change status very quickly, that is not what I observed, so that should put a lot of minds at ease.

The ones I cut were 87% cloudy, 11% clear and 1-2% amber, and I allowed them to go as deep as they could.

So that strongly suggests there is no need to worry about amber, while letting your buds grow to their fullest extent.

Let um go, let um grow.

Most def :joint:

Just skipping around the joint and see you have some nice bud bro. Don't take mine full term so your tryk info was surprising to me too, i thought they would cloud off much quicker. Great grow mate stella work.
Avatar cracks me up too.

Thanks man, I’m kinda surprised myself that a first time grower could come up with such respectable results.

And bearing in mind that for the most part they were just fed water makes it all the more satisfying to me.

I think one of the things that stops a lot of people starting a grow is that they see this seemingly never ending list of chems that you appear to need to grow cannabis and it puts people off.

If this thread does one thing I hope it inspires people to know that they can grow chemical free, if they wish.

I hope it also inspires people to know that they can let there buds mature before cropping, knowing that I picked fully mature buds with very small percentage of amber.

Couldn't agree more about the nutes/ferts,ph,ppm thing it's crazy. Your a good example how they like to be encouraged, not forced to grow. People see a spot on a leaf and its Chemistry books out. Iv'e grown for years, never had a ph metre and never will.

That's the thing, these plants grow naturally with just water when your growing in soil.

It seems so simple people find it hard to wrap there heads around.

I try to get the optimum results form the simplest methods.

I will add some simple teas to my next generation grow and develop slowly and like you say, just give them a nice environment in which to grow.

The mission is not over yet, but I feel my dummy runs in drying and curing has prepared my for the last leg of the journey.

This process will also be documented.

I have a PH meter, but I totally hear you.

Yeah man, I couldn’t be happier. The OG Kush’s really lived up to my expectations (well actually surpassed them).

Had some friends around for the smoke test, they were blown away. The aroma and potency even the way the colors have come through with curing makes this killer bud.

I dried for 4 days as planned and then put them into curing. I cured with the use of hydrometers in the jars (takes out the guess work) so I knew when the buds had hit the curing zone.

I cut the upper stems and left the lower underdeveloped stems and replaced the plants back into the grow room to hopefully continue to grow/mature.

One plant remains un-chopped, the Expert Haze (burns victim). Just taste tested one of her buds and she is ready for the chop.

Once the drying area is empty she will be in next (4 days or so).

Looks nice and tasty my dude. My old lady hates the smell buds give when being trimmed.
Thanks man, in terms of the taste of the three strains I grew, I would say the OG Kush is my favorite (smells like a combination of pineapple juice and diesel) and potency wise it hit's like a truck, gotta be careful when I smoke it.

The Silver Haze has a fruity smell, but less of a taste, good potency. The high creeps up on you, good to smoke when you're busy and gotta get things done.

The Expert Haze hasn't been harvested yet, but I took a popcorn bud quick dried it, then smoked it, last night. It had a distinct Lemon undertone to the flavor and got me high.

So I think it's going to be a quality smoke when I chop, dry and cure it.

Yeah they sure do let you know what they smell like when you’re trimming them, I kinda like it.
