Anyone heard of using this method? Basic Hydroponic, no timer or water pump, manually feed daily, using perlite/ vecumitt or whaterver you call it as soil in 3 gallon buckets... for what i have read and understand, they produce an intense amount on yield, being that when watered daily, the water travels down forcing new oxygen to hit the roots, while the water makes it to the bottom, an 1.5" hole drilled above the bottom of the bucket, will serve as drainage... as the water accumulates , it acts as a resevoir when the roots are shooting down with intense grow, hencing a DWC of some sort, but not quite because the roots that are growing down, will serve as water roots and absorbe the water/nutes daily, while the top roots will serve as air roots roots rich with oxgyen,

Now,
given an example , using a 400Watt HPs 12/12, recommended dosage of nutes daily, using tap water or something, so no needs for ph meter to monitor ph levels, since you will do that before watering...
the water in the resevoir changes as every watering provided fresh chain of nutrients,
a 8 plant Hempy bucket can yield you as much as 2 - 3 oz a plant using a 4x4x7 space , basically 50 watt per square foot ...

my ??? is, anyone ever tried this???

and BTW, sorry for the typing.... Afghan has the tendecy to make my ye hand coord.. jajed up

Using a 400watter in that amount of space u would be lucky to get a half to an ounce max per plant. Thousand watts in there, than maaybe??? I think their are also a lot more productive systems out there than that one, but if u believe in it try it! Sounds simple enuf...

Yep I have done it before. It works wonderful. It does yield a lot. Lots of info available if you Google. Also you don't water Hempy buckets every day. Perhaps every 2-3 days depending on how much vermiculite you have in there. Some people have experimented with water crystals to increase the time between watering.

Thanks dude, well I was inquiring, because i was deciding betweeen DWC and the hempy bucket system, im starting my flowering in a week with regular mexican sativa seeds (from bagseed) and am using a 600 watter, with a 5x5x7 sunhut, how can i obtain the max yield possible?

between the 2 its all about prefrence the hempy system is designed to be low cost an simple to use....the 5x5 is 2 big for a 600 alone i suggest getting another 600...those mexi's will strech all threw flower...so plants flipped at 24 inches could be 6 feet when done...what a bout scrog or lst...you plan on sogging or bushy plants...peace az

Azgrow and Tanuvan:

Do you use full strength nutes, or do you have to cut it down a little like it is recomended for using dwc? Also, how often do you water the hempy buckets and how far from the bottom of the bucket do you drill your hole? In Hempy's post he said you had to water once a day, how do you get away from that?

Also, not trying to add to or take away from hempy's design, but wouldn't it be possible not to drill the hole in the side, like they do in hydroculture?

Houseplant Hydroculture

This way, just filling a bucket up with clay pellets, then filling the bucket up with nute solution about 1/3 the way, then let it drink it all down, when it gets like 1/2 inch from the bottom just fill it up again. Wouldn't this work?

My friend used to grow bonsai trees with hydroculture, this is generally how he did it, making sure never to fill it up all the way.

I did a little reading on water crystals and like how they sound. Do you know if they heighten the chance of rot or any kind of infestation? Anyone have any experience with it?

also you can use nutes at full strength...but it depends on the strain..some are hungyier then others...
by not cutting the hole in your starving the plants roots for air...an if you ever needed to flush the plant...no holes is a no go....as for the crystles yea you can use em...but the base should be 75%perlite....peace az

Not doubting your method azgrow, just wondering why it's mandatory that you cut a hole in the hempy bucket but not in typical hydroculture pots? I understand you need air there, but if you use hydrotron rocks the air theoretically could get through the top, couldn't it? I thought the hole in the side was just to ensure you don't overwater.

the hole in the side is desigened to make the bottem 2 in a mini basin...while still alowwing you to flush/leach your plants if problems arise...if you used all h-rocks you might want to make the hole a lil higher up cause the h-rocks loss water faster then perlitie does so it would reguire more waterings..also like rockwool..h-rocks need to be rinsed in warm ph'd water.....peace az
