how far does a male plant need to be to not pollinate the female??

i was thinking about collecting the pollon from the male ?

As far away as possible. If they are in the same room there is a good chance that they will procreate.

i think i read somewhere (dont ask where cuz i would have looked it up if i remembered) that pollen can go like 2-5 miles on the wind

I don't think that is far enough to ensure that they won't get pollenated. Just keep your eye on it and get the pollen sacks as soon as they are ready.
