Help with vegging time

Can anyone tell me what the best vegging time is from seed using cfls?im on my 3rd grow at the mo but 1st with cfls,i vegged for 20 days using a maxibrite 250w 6500k and 2 60w 6500k bulbs,keeping them as close as possible.im now flowering using a maxibrite 250w 2700k and 4 20w 2700k all around them.The plants are now about 4' tall and i think they are to big for the lights im using.when they are done i will try again so help would be good.thanks

You can use the cfl's for vegging.. lets say maybe for a month,

But, for anything worthwhile in flowering, you either need a grip of cfl's hanging all over the place, or a single 400+ watt hps with a good reflector.

Normally, you would veg a plant 15-20" before putting her in flower.

Thanks for the help closetgrowth.im thinking about going back down the hps road.

When I used cfls I was vegging for about 1-1/2-2 months, I cut that down to about 5 weeks with my hps's

If you are just using CFL's to flower with, you are better off at putting them into flower at 12" max. If you don't you will have a ton of popcorn buds all over the bottom because the plants will be to tall for good penetration. Scrogging, topping or any other kind of training works well for lower intensity lighting.
