Help with res

I have been growing in soil but was given a CAP ebb and grow system so I am trying to learn to use that system.

I have been reading a lot of various threads and articles and I am sure this is out there but I am not looking in the right place or searching for the right words. Most of my confusion with hydro is around adding and maintaining nutrients.

Can someone point me to a thread, tutorial, or how they set up and maintain their res when it comes to nutrients. For example do you add directly to the res? Do you add to a separate bucket and then mix that in to the res? Does it matter? I plan on changing the res out about every 2 weeks. Do you only add nutes during that time or do you top off?

Basically any links or tips around adding and maintaining nutes to a res would be great.

Thanks

Depends on how many plants you are planning on.

For 1 or 2 plant grows, it's better to just use 2 5 gallon buckets and each bucket becomes its' own rez. Every 2 weeks, replace the old water with fresh water.

For larger systems such as those with a control bucket. Then you want to drain the system, replace the water maybe add some Clear-ex to help flush out any salts.

Then just add your nutes (assuming you don't have a ppm meter) according to the directions on your nutrients' packages.

Fill your rez with fresh water, then in a separate bucket filled with water, mix your nutes according to the volume of water your reservoir can hold.
(in smaller systems make sure to leave enough room in your rez for the nutes + the water that your mixing)

Do you only add nutes during that time or do you top off?
Unless you have a ppm meter, then you will only want to top off with fresh water.

Check out the DWC Grow Club for a lot more information. There are a lot of regulars there that are very knowledgeable.
