Help with Rastafari Religion?

Im currently a 15 year old hippie. I am VERY spiritual and have many good energy candles and such. I have recently been exploring the Rastafari religion through MANY websites and books. I like most of the ideals but i have some problems with it. I know the language is slightly different then English, and from what i've read, Rastas believe in equality but not for women. I believe in the equality of the whole world and worlds beyond. Also i am white. I know Bob Marley was half white and what King Hailie Selassie said about if there is not equality there will be war but im not exactly sure if white people are really "looked upon highly" (no pun intended) by black Rastas. Also i know most Rastafarians live in africa. I have no intention of moving to africa but i would love to visit. Also, my hair does not really "dread". When long it just puffs out and doesn't seem to tangle at all and i dont want to resort to dreading shampoo as this would ruin the spirituality of dreads. I also love smoking marijuana but dont always stay calm. In fact i laugh a lot and i know in Rastafari you are supposed to take it seriously as it is for reasoning. On the plus side i love the message, the music, and the lifestyle. Please give me advice..... I've been having these thoughts on my mind for months now....

your 15 and i know your still finding yourself, hell i know 80 year olds still trying to figure themselves out. all religions and lifestyles have things to teach everyone. but it doesnt mean you have to dive into it. take what you can, but leave what you don't agree with. rasta isnt just a religion it's a lifestyle. can't be one and not live the other, ya dig? bob marley was a wise character. i wish he didnt die so young but i guess only the good die young eh? keep smoking the herb, "it'll reveal ya to yourself"

Actually the majority of rastas live in the UK and commonwealth nations, from what I have been told. Ethiopa might be their hoped destination, but a rasta I used to know explained that it's nigh on impossible to migrate there due to strong immigration laws.

Seriously, though a couple of points (apart from being too young to post here).

(1) Do you really think that posting here is going to teach you anything? I suggest reading the bible, studying rasta teachings if this were anything more than a stoned wondering.

(2) Every kid who gets into pot gets all mystical/hippy bullcrap interested (when I was 18 it was the eastern religions). Here's a thought. Forget about weed til you've finished your education young man. I am a lifelong smoker and would never ever suggest someone under the age of consent smoke weed. Your brain is still developing, allowing it to spend time in a stoned state will be stunting that developement and making long term changes to the way you will eventually think, not all of them are bad, I will admit, but right now you are too young to differentiate.

Actually you are wrong. Scientists have proven that smoking marijuana may actually stimulate brain cell growth. When I was 15 I smoked a bowl every morning before school except for a few times and it made me actually pay attention and made every subject more interesting.

Some advice for him though is to not follow organized religion and read the entire bible or as much as you can. As long as you are motivated, & know good from evil you will learn how to be as righteous as you can in everyday situations. As for the giggling you will get over it when you get older. You will still laugh at things that are funny but you wont laugh at stupid things anymore. Just pick up morals that you know are right whether it be from rasta or bible, and you will learn how to live a righteous lifestyle.
