help with growing in coco

Im looking into coco as lugging dirt in and out have become a problem due to my own mobility.

What are the most common problems and what do i need to do to maintain it properly?

Mostly need knowledge on perlite mix ratio (if any), ph level for veg/flower, nutrient def with coco and life time of coco being reused.


Can some of you coco growers chime in here please, thanks in advance guys!

Straight botanicare coco in a 2 gallon fabric pot. You need a pH meter and a ppm meter for sure, they're a must. No additional perlite or "extra" blooming boosters are necessary. Use RO water and nutrient solution and pH to 5.8. Before u plant, flush 1/2 to 1 gallon of the 5.8 solution through the container. Plant and water with the same solution until u get a bunch of runoff. Once established in a week u can water 2-3x daily if you want as long as you get the all important runoff each time. I used drain to waste which is a chore but predictable. Using the ppm meter mix your solution strength to 400-500ppm and pH to 5.8. U must pH to 5.8. With RO water and floranova 1 part fertilizer I found it very easy to repeat. Coco demands consistency in pH and sufficient runoff every time you feed. Larger pots I found were harder to deal with while the smaller 2 gallon were virtually carefree. I bumped the solution to 600-700ppm or even higher while observing the leaf tips for burn then adjust accordingly. Mistakes show quickly and respond just as fast to your correction. You'll get a lot of different advice here about flushing..don't. If you get the runoff I described you don't need to. Good luck to you

If you are looking for a good reusable medium,that doesnt cause deficiency or CEC problems,look into perlite as a medium.

BTW after you harvest you'll see reusing is a big frustrating waste of time. Think u can separate the miles of very fine roots? You'll beat the hell out of that rootball, scattering coco everywhere sifting and screening out more and more roots. Not even close to being worth the time or effort. Buy a new bag already.
