Help with build

I have 8 gallon round buckets and I want to make some kind of (R)DWC that I can go away for at least 3-4 days. I am not sure if it's already proven system, but this comes to my mind: connecting bottoms of 8 gal buckets together with 50 mm fittings and PVC tubes. One the same size "control bucket" with float valve on top. And then 55 gal drum with nutrients behind control bucket elevated so it will passive fill the control bucket. I guess this could work without flooding? Float valve in control bucket will autofill all other grow buckets when empty, or?
Then just one stone per bucket and that's it. No other pumps, only air pump for stones.

50 mm fittings for buckets, or I need something else?

Also, I have 5x10 tent, how many buckets do you think can handle? I am thinking of 2 or 3 rows of 4 with some normal veg time around 30-40 days top.

Yes.

How long you can leave depends on how automated your room environment is, how long your nutrients of choice will stay within an acceptable PH range and any other needs like training and pest control etc.

Airstones in buckets with roots + drain bulkhead + feed bulkhead + water pump. From there you can add a secondary reso.

FYI I have left DWC buckets for a week without any trouble - the water line gets low when they are big, but the plant does OK. The secondary helps reduce management.

Pro tip: sand all the barbed fittings so that water doesn't drip out from the ridge artifact left over from the plastic molding process.
