Help with A/C

Hey guys. I'm new to growing and have setup my room with a 4x4
Veg tent with 600w MH and a grow tent with 2 1000w HPS bulbs. Everything is vented to the attic through 8" hoods. I also have a 8" blower scrubbing my grow tent.
My temps in the bloom tent are mid 80s. What size portable air conditioner would bring this temp down? I run at nighttime also.
The room is 10x12'

A 12K should drop you down to acceptable levels....

It would pay to spend the bigger bucks on a portable server cooler (AC) made by Tripp Lite $579 is going to be about the best price but, look around....

You would benefit most from a split unit if you can get that setup. Even when it starts to become hot I eject a very small amount of air, 240cfm inline booster fan, into the attic through a carbon activated filter. This pulls a vacuum keeping smell in, it pulls cool air in and as a bonus it pushes hot air out of my attic. It is hitting low 70's here I am still not using an air conditioning.

True but costs a lot more and Mitsubishi is the only one to look at there for long term quality.
You have to keep them super clean too.....or you loose effectiveness and can get breakdowns faster if you don't.
The other plus though. You can get several outlets cover more rooms so YOU stay cool too.
But if it's only that one area your willing or wanting to cool - Portable.

If you can switch to lights/flower at night it will save money in the long run, unless you are just vegging and have to run during the day and night, I had a 12k cooling down 8k watt's in a garage in split in half but I couldn't get the temps to drop a ton I think I was able to get it down like 15*, you can't push the heat outside because that would be the cheapest method and long time be better for you, because that a/c unit is going to cost you $120-$250 to run, I think it cost me $200 to run it 24/7

I have a portable in the shed I don't use it is an expensive beast. I always recommend Window A/C unit over portable if possible. Not that I wouldn't run a portable if I was out of meds because that's why I have a portable obviously, necessity. If you do run a portable then insulating the exhaust hose pays for itself pretty fast. Also note that you do need to seal the inside in my experiences if running co2

yeah don't get a portable unit they are complete junk, a 12k is like running a 5k watt, you will regret it big time, I've had several digital ones

I respect that! BUT -

I WON'T use a window rattler because it allows in unfiltered air! I live in the sticks on a farm and have farms all around beside the woods in the valley I'm in. So, beside allowing in any bug. They also "suck" in spores of god knows what......1 power outage and boom - mold attack!

The Tripp Lite is a server cooler and is set up a bit different then a regular portable.
It's about being a single exhaust outlet, that's exactly 6 inch's to the old inefficient portables off size "5".
It acts as a dehumidifier at the same time, exhausting out the moisture and NOT storing it in a "tank"!
I have had mine for 4 and 1 year respectively.....Under the same conditions. The only other portable to "last" has been Amana's

The Tripp also use's LESS energy then a window rattler or any other "portable" on the market today!

I'm set up to run Gas (generator) in a 24 X 14 room and the portables would be shut off and the central AC/heat would handle any cooling needs while gassing. The portables are support/back up to the Central AC.....After all, gassing requires about 90 deg and an RH in the 70's...

window unit way better then any portable . if possible then for a small grow a portable . but for a big grow . mini split
For a "big" grow? Get a Central AC/Furnace - CHEAPER THE THE MINI on line! Cheaper then a window rattler to run too!

You guys need to read the above post! Window units allow access to "unfiltered air and insects into your grow. It does not allow for a sealed air environment for gas use either!

Todd. I'll let you in on something here.
Mr. Ryan1918 is full of BS of the highest order! This guy says he uses Mt Dew as a nutrient and a blow torch to kill Fungus gnats in his soil! Now just what does that tell you?

You did GREAT - don't let the negative one's who don't understand the whole picture to influence your choice!

Hahaha that is too funny. I went with a portable for many of reasons. To top it off, it is as effecient or as efficient as the window units I had looked at, according to the specs.

For a guy that sits on this forum 24/7 and not have a life because you seem to have to come into EVERY single thread I post in and try to give them a better answer when all you talk is a bunch of gibberish bullshit, you sound like a fucking moron in half your posts that copy and pasted the bullshit from another forum...

Also don't tell me what the fuck I said because I never said I used mt dew as a nutrient you don't know what the fuck your talking about and you seem to been stuck on my shit since day 1, maybe you should try it or shut the fuck up about it already since you seem to know everything so well, go write a book while your in prison!! HAPPY TROLLING!

Actually the window shakers don't allow outside air in unless it has a damper. Not promoting them but just clarifying that they do not allow air from outside in. As for portables they do work ok as they have progressed recently. The choice depends on your wants and needs. I would probably go for the portable in my situation due to stealth with only a small intake exhaust hood in my shed wall that I could hide. A whole house AC for a grow is a tad over kill IMO but a ductless would be a good choice as well.

I used a portable A/C, and have a few notes if u go that route...

1. Use the vent kit it comes with as a template.. build one out of wood and semi-ridgid duct... (this is a light leak issue)
2. Get a longer hose than it comes with, and pipe that bitch out the window too! (may need to elevate unit for this to work)
3. This method does NOT allow for carbon filtering... beware of hot stinky bud smelling air blasting out the window...... pipe that shit over roof height w/ a rain cap if its in your power to do so....

If you got the $ and tools/skill, go with a PTAC or mini-split... best options for grow rooms... gives it its own system and controller....

Nice! Good stuff right there. I'll be venting it straight into the attic.
It's all about stealth. The room will be facing the street so I don't need anyone asking questions when they see a window unit in a house with central a/c already in it
