Guys give me some help. Growing big buckets outdoors, from seed, where am I looking to top here?

My croppin skills were a little weak last year. I'm looking for short bush type plants in my situation.

I see photos where it wishbones out of the soil, I need to achieve that. How early on a seedling do I need to be?

Thanks in advance.....

Climbed down that rabbit hole a bit. 4th node up on seedling?
For the first go, I'd suggest following the method Uncle Ben teaches. Let the plant grow to 5 or 6 nodes, then top at the second node (first node to get multi-fingered leaves) for 4 main colas. I've used the method and it works just as advertised.

I've always topped at the 4th or 5th node. Then if it is a tall, fast growing strain, I will top every couple of weeks until it gets to near flower time.

The wishbone-looking plants are generally LST'ed

I top my outdoor plants (clones in 15gal. pots) kind of late in veg, in order to send hormones to the lower branches- it doesn't really produce more top colas

I tend to create a 4-cola structure outdoors. Top at the 3-4 node and repeat once more after 3-4 nodes. This will usually allow me to fill out the interior of the plant and have a carpet of bud.

Hi.i usually tip plant on the 3rd set of propper leaves bend stem towards ground and peg with fencing wire..where the sun goes down the plant is bent the opposite direction.then as the 6 laterals grow i train those along ground say about 50mm off ground.looks a little like a spiders legs .and i keep pegging them down to about 100 days then let them come up.i have done this for 18 yrs and works great.as in my avatar they are 1 pound plants.nice and short and bushy .the reason i do this is to keep em short so no neighbours cant see them,i only tip them once as it sets them back a couple weeks ea time you do it in growth..pegging the laterals down helps create more of the plants stimulant called auxins which move to the darker side of the plant and the cells grow bigger that side and make the branch curve elongate creating growth.stops writing..has a cone..

If bushes is what your after, just keep right on topping the tallest points every week or two until a couple weeks before flower. Then clean out the inside of all the shoots that didn't push their way out and let her rip.
Super advice! In addition any shoots WAAAYY low to the outside, super crop them to the center of the plant after..
