HELP. plugged in my new lamp, then BOOOM

I just got my 60watt clf. and ready to get the setup going!
I put my new lamp cord together( came with no instructions ).
Then i plugged it in the wall, then instant BOOm. sparts everywhere and shit blew up (luckily lightbulb wasnt in it)
**The metal piece that plugs in the wall is damaged and is burnt. Im guessing its unusable.
What happened? Did i wire it in wrong? OR did LOWES give me a poo poo lamp?
HELP thx
