i'd recommend a simple DIY aero/bubbler or drip/bubbler - you can find a bunch of plans and ideas here:

I would not recommend an aerogarden since you have to buy it and then spend money to customize it - might as well just start off right by building/buying something adequate.

Mostly you would need a tray, reservoir, pump and fittings for an ebb n' flow. I am making a bubbler for cheap currently. I should make a log/journal about it. Need to find a camera. . .
Anyways, a bubbler is super easy, in both construction and during the actual growing process. It's basically a rubbermaid bin with net pots in the top and an air pump/stone on the inside filled with nutrient solution. I would look into making one of those. I am going to spend ~$50 on mine after it's all said and done.

50 bucks? ~lol~ What you need is a Bucket System.
1. Go to Home Depot and buy a couple of new 5 gallon paint buckets with lids.
2. Go to the hydro store and buy some 3" net pots, some GrowRocks, a PH test kit, a small bottle of PH Down, a quart of General Hydrophonics "Micro" and a quart of General Hydrophonics "Bloom. The Micro is brown and the Bloom is red.
3. Go to WalMart and look in the aquarium section. Buy a dual outlet air pump, come clear, plastic airlines and two six-inch air stones.
Now, cut a hole in the center of the bucket lids for the netpots. The best method is to use a hole saw connected to a drill motor. Just be sure to use a two-and-seven-eighths inch hole saw and not a three-inch one. If you use a three-inch one, the net pot will fall through the hole. ~lol~
Drill a small hole in the side of the bucket about two inches from the top of the bucket ... the air lines leading from the air pump will go in there. Put the airstone into he bottom of the bucket. Connect the airline to the airpump. Fill the bucket with your nutrient mix so the solution level comes to about 1/4 inch below the bottom of the netpots. Now, place your rooted clone, or seedling into the netpot with the GrowRocks. Plug the airpump into the electrical socket. The bubbles produced by the Airstone will break on the surface of the solution and the "mist" will provide all the nutrients the plant will need.
Here's the ratio for the nutrient mix PER GALLON OF WATER:
Veg: 5ml Micro, 10ml Bloom.
Flowering: 8ml Micro, 16ml Bloom.
For small seedlings and rooted cuttings cut the veg ratio in half until you have some nice healthy plants going.
Add back fresh water as the plants use the nutrients keeping the water level 1/4 inch from the bottom of the net pots. When you have added back the amount you started with, empty the buckets and mix up a fresh batch of nutes. Try to keep the PH between 5.2 and 5.8 for maximum nutrient uptake.
Don't let the guy at the hydro store sell you anything more than the two nutes I listed above. You don't need anything else. If the plants start to yellow during the veg cycle, just add 1/2 teaspoon of Ebsom Salts to the solution. You can buy Ebsom Salts at any drug store, WalMart, Target ... anywhere, and its cheap.
There you go ... and you should be close to your $50 limit.
Don't doubt this method just because its cheap and simple. A friend of mine grew a plant like this under a 1000 watt HPS as an experiment and harvested two pounds of quality bud. That's two pounds of dried, trimmed and cured quality bud.

cmon, man, the aerogarden reservoir is what, a gallon? You won't get decent colas with that crap. It's also overpriced.

Grabbed this from a friend. It's an Aquamist I, the same system they used in SeeMoreBuds DVDs (1&2). If the results are as good as in the vids, I can't wait.

Sure. Just turn the pot upside down and take the plant out of the pot ... gently. Then, with your hand, gently remove the soil from around the roots. Finish off by gently running water over the roots to remove any remaining soil. Then, transplant the plant into your soil-less medium. Remember, be gentle in all phases of the operation to avoid damaging the roots.
