Help my growbox and I with this Heat.

Lets start with the demensions 36in length 16in width and 36in heigth. I have a 56 cfm pc fan exhaust fan pushing air out of the top. Now when i turn on my 150w hps it gets hot my thermosat reads anywhere from 84-96 F. ive tried restricting the air flow by blocking the intake it raised humidty but even raised the temps i added another fan to blow heat from the bulb towards the exhaust and this seemed to work but it stays around 82-84 F Now and ambient temp is only 70° and this is getting annoying i have 1 NL Auto going still under soil though.

Sorry for the sideways picture and in the 3rd pic is the other pc fan i have was my intake but it wasnt doing much has a higher cfm but nothing compared to the 56cfm which is the fan im using as an exhaust

Getting Hot air out is 100 times more important than getting cool air in. Exhaust from the top as much as possible (Use all your fans if you have to), and let the intake be passive.

And is your ballast inside? That is a large heat source, Get it out of there if at all possible.

yeah that ballast is going to create alot of heat in that small a space you need to get that sucker outa there

in such a small space your best bet would be a cool tube. I would advice against using a 150 watt in a space as small as yours. The benefits of using a high powered light are far out weighed by the heat issue, and are compounded by the burn your plants might suffer had they grow too close too the bulb. If you are dead set on your current set up, I would use a cool tube with a s&p td fan. If you are planning on using a scrubber, I would upgrade to the 150. If noise is a issue you can run two fans, one pulling the heat out of the box, another to scrub the air.

Yeah it is inside right underneath the exhaust fan. I have looked at a cooltube but im not sure about it since the ones ive seen are around 50-70$ worth it but damn. Also what is a s&p td fan. And nothings going on until i have these variables down.

So i toke the ballast out and it did lower it by 2° down to a solid 83° for awhile. So while i create a diy cooltube for now i have put the extra pc fan the one in the 3rd pic and attached it to a piece of my hood ghetto air cooled hood il post a pic in a bit but this seriously cut down the heat high of the day is 79 but usally stayed at 77° so im geting there

why not use a bigger exhaust fan or a more cpm output one

well i would but i need to find one first. the small one has a higher cfm rating but doesnt push as much as the one i have exhausting out now.

If you want to keep with PC fans look at the AKASA VIPER PWM. Its 84CFM and a fucking killer 120mm fan.

Go to a hardware store & pick up a 4-5" booster fan.Mine cost me like $40-I have a cabinet almost identical to your space and it lowered the temps from 32 degrees C to 24*C..Im pushing it through a carbon filter though- its definately a little louder than the PC fan..not a crazy amount though!

im not concerned about noise this is a closet in the other room but ive been with pc fans since they were cheap but im going by menards today to see if they carry anything like a booster fan. whats your boosters cfm rating

so i went to the hardware store they have 4, 6, and 8, in inline duct fans like i need but they arent plug in ready i guess to say they had 3 wires coming out and yeah i dont know shit about wiring

I have a box that's nearly the exact same size. Mines is, 15W X 19D X 35H. In my experience, you'll always be combating heat. By the time you reach flowering, you're going to have problems. There's ways to make the heat work in your favor (Like dealing with humidity), but you're gonna need some very good circulation in order to keep the temp down. I've given up on using the box for my whole grow, instead it's now a vegging box. Like somebody said before, exhaust is way more important than getting fresh air in.

My advice:
Place a small 6" fan somewhere in the middle of the top half of your box and angle the fan towards the light. The cool air from the bottom of the box will get sucked through the fan and pass across the light, cooling the hot air around the light and sending it directly to your exhaust.
You don't, or shouldn't, place this fan directly in the center, it should be placed in the corner so that the air circles around the box and light. Your heating problem should greatly improve.
I live in a place that's very hot (an island). Heat is constantly my enemy. I've started to learn how to manipulate it and make it work in my favor. I've also learned a lot on how to combat this persistent enemy. With my box being almost identical to yours, give my solution a try.

What our local guys do is put a thin sheet of glass between the light and growing area then vent the light separately from grow area

Thanks im trying to get a new exhaust but i have to wait untill friday to order it. I would just add a sheet of glass but then i would have to get another hood and at that point i could just get an air cooled 400. Im probably just going to run with T5hos until the last few weeks of flower and switch

yeah, find some plexi-glass and completely enclose the top light and have a dedicated evac (cpu fan? or something) for it.

I would also get some more cpu fans....a few of them
I'd put one extracting near the ballast, and near the T5
once your heat is properly evacuated....the other fans will draw in fresh air.

...be sure to fix it to a point where you can actually adjust the temp as you wish.
