it's really easy. you pinch or cut off the main growth tip just above the last set of leaves/branches. not complicated at all.

Here are some pics of my topped plants... when you top them (cut off the main growth), make sure there are at least tiny branches coming out right above the last fan leaves........you cut there.......so those tiny little "branches to be" grow into two tops. There is also a post about it in FAQ's with pictures. I think it is in advanced techniques. GL:bigjoint:

i'll explain the 'FIM' technique in all it's glorious detail: fim stands for 'fug i missed' ... meaning.... you can really do no wrong. if you half cut off the top growth it doesn't matter, you're still reducing the growth hormone and other branches are going to see a boost in growth because of it :D

the fim technique is easy actualy.
the small budd looking growing node on top of your plant is were all the future branches come fromand when you cut it right they all grow at the same rate.
if you look at the top you can split it into 4 sections.
the 1st is the verry top were the tips of the next leaf set is growing.
the 2nd is the top middle were the points of the leaves that come in after the next ones are.
the 3rd is were it looks like it is starting to get denser and almost "budd" looking.
the 4th and final part is the bottom of the "budd" looking area and is the most bulbous.
what you want to do is cut away the top 3/4ths of that top, leaving only the bottom 1/4th (the bulbous part) on the plant. the branches/nodes will come from there.
good luck and happy growing!! bongsmilie
